I think there are a lot of grocery stores lacking in supplies right now.

Don't know about Baton Rouge, but Carter's in Walker looked like a scene from a zombie movie at 9AM, and stayed open until late. I imagine just about every item in the store was sold.

Hope so. They said they're diverting the shipments to BR.

Walmart has a distribution center in Robert, right off I-12.

With 12 being shutdown, no trucks getting in or out.

If stores were allowed to charge more for items in demand during times of scarcity then those items would be available to more people.

i.e. - 'gouging'

I went through this once after Katrina . Went a bit hungry for a couple days so that my young, growing kids could eat.

Hopefully, the rescue and recovery efforts get fully organized soon. This absolutely sucks for you guys.

Was picking up some stuff at the one on tchop and it was pretty empty and mid-remodel (missing half the shelving even).... So it might be odd coincidence

My neighborhood Rouses was just fine. We only buy toiletries and cleaning products at WalMart.

I'd like to give a big shout out to the Winn Dixie at Coursey and Stumberg. I went around 11 am. No line outside, lanes weren't crowded. They were very low on bread, meat and milk. But their deli was open and we got rotisserie chicken and hot french bread. Had plenty of everything else.

Between transportation route closures, power issues, and high demand due to restaurant closures, this is not surprising. It shows you how tightly coupled the logistics for keeping society functioning normally really are.

I'm not familiar with LA's laws, but most people have an emotional aversion to allowing free economics solve the problem mentioned here.

Joe Blow sees 10 cans of soup on the shelf for $1 each. He buys all of them for $10 to take home 'just in case.' Next guy finds an empty shelf.

Or, Joe sees 10 cans of soup for $10 each. He only buys what he absolutely needs. Next guy has a chance to buy some soup.

Etc.
