One of my stepdaughters lost her mom recently. She is the mom of a baby with special needs. i told her i would stock up her pantry for her and the baby.

She lives out in New Orleans/Metairie area. I am parishes away. Can she/I order food to be picked up at the wmart there but use my card to pay for it. i can make the entire order online but is that when you pa/ Or is it when the person picks up (cuz that will not work since i have my bankcard).

Thanks in advance

I would assume it's when you order it online.

I’m not sure I understand the question. Yes you order online and pay online

Might be easier to send her a visa prepaid card?

That's what I am hoping and it would be logical since that would eliminate people prank ordering.

It's when you pick it up, but I think they would still bill the card on record. They have never asked for my card to pick up.
Reason they don't bill until pick up is that some items might change or some are based on weight.

Maybe it’s different per location but we do it every other week and they take the funds the day we order online. You have to give them 24 hour notice btw OP and pick a pickup time.

You pay online. I order it sometimes and my wife picks it up

Is she using your credit card on her phone to order? The app tells walmart when you are leaving and when you get there so she'd have to call ahead and again when she arrives otherwise I guess.

A hold is immediately placed on the credit card associated with the account. You sign for it when you pick up and the charge is then posted. No one deals with a card at pick up. Only a signature is needed.

Also, Walmart advises you when the order is ready (mine is usually about 15 minutes before the time I designate when ordering) and you call when you arrive.

What you want to do for her will work with their system.

Just send her the money and tell her to get whatever she needs

Couldn't a call to Walmart or a visit to their website have answered this question?

You ever tried calling Walmart? It's 10x worse than asking a clueless employee in the store. His chances were higher coming here.

Simple answer - you order online with your account that is tied to your credit card. Once the groceries are picked up, the credit card on the account will be charged. Person picking up groceries doesn’t pay. Person ordering online does.

Why don't you drive down there, make the groceries and deliver them to her in person. Help her put them away. Share a meal together. Visit with her for a little bit.

If she just lost her mom and has a special needs child she would probably appreciate the face to face interaction with an adult.

Card info is entered online but they don’t charge it until pickup in case there are items they do not have or substituted, or if you refuse items.
