Yes, but plenty of assholes are looking at their phones and wander aimlessly or just stop dead in their tracks which is the worst. Especially if I'm the one behind them.

After a few years in NYC, I’ve given up trying to ponder this question.
One thing holds true here that we can all agree on, the left side of the escalator is for passing. You do not stand on the left. Everything else is anarchy.

A particular aggravation is the person who walks straight at you and pretends not to see you or expects you to move bxxxx, get outta the way. You decide.

My observations are that t is usually the same people who refuse to follow walking etiquette as those who violate driving etiquette.

Beyond just walking in a crowded location:
1. When using public transit, let people get off the train BEFORE you try to get on. It amazes me how people don't understand that simple rule. Same rule applies for elevators.
2. When getting on an escalator, if you plan on remaining stationary, move over to the right so people walking can pass. Just like on the interstate.

Let's just be honest here, black people are BAD about doing this (no racism) and walking painfully slow 5-wide. It's like they're completely oblivious to the flow of foot traffic around them.

If someone’s coming straight at me I usually give them the limp leg. Just fake left and go right and just spin off of them if they run into you.

How would that work on packed SRO subways / trains where riders are going 1-2 stops? Good luck fighting your way to another door.

One side of the train is for entry, the other is to exit. At worst you would have to get past someone in the middle who isn’t getting off (which you would have to do anyway if all doors were used for both entry and exit).

Some people (a lot is cultural) just don't give a frick about anyone but themselves and their little posse. Asking someone to move, you think you had slapped them
