BATON ROUGE, La. -The Walker Police Department will conduct a sobriety checkpoint within the city limits of Walker, on Saturday, August 27, from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m.

According to WPD, they are enhancing their efforts to detect impaired motorist to prevent any DWI related fatalities, especially for Labor Day.

This year’s Labor Day program runs from August 19 to September 5. Police say this includes sobriety checkpoints and extra patrols to identify and apprehend impaired motorists “We are pleased to be a grant funded participant in the “Drive Sober or Pulled Over” traffic safety campaign,” Walker Police Chief David Addison said.

The DWI checkpoint is being held in conjunction with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

As the Labor Day period approaches, the Walker Police Department urges everyone to drive safely and responsibly.

That's not a Labor Day program. That's a month.

Nope they can’t… back in the early 80’s the feds had to get involved.. because the Ouachita Parish Sheriff and State Troopers (F) constantly conducted checkpoints on I-20

Why do PDs always give people a heads up on these? Hell, some of them have gone as far to list exact locations.

Checkpoints are gestapo tactics.

If they actually wanted to police they would observe people leaving bars and they wouldn't have to inconvenience everyone driving through town.

Of course they won't catch anyone with a DWI but there will be reports of plenty of inspection sticker, late registration, etc. tickets on this night.

I believe they are required to notify the public but do not have to share the exact location.

I don’t think there are any bars within Walker city limits.

If there was no financial incentive to put people in handcuffs I might agree with you.

I don't drink and drive and yet I find these dragnet checkpoints to be off-putting. It reminds my uncle of the middle east.

I dislike both. Those checkpoints are a reason to search any vehicle. More than just DUIs
