At least you'll have yourself a DeAngelo's and Albasha's to eat at nearby.

Good? It’s a GREAT place for a young family.

Woops. That's what I meant.

Plenty of land and houses with acreage. Pretty much every housing type: apartments, trailers, starter homes, large homes, vacant land. Juban Crossing has really helped out shopping too.

I leave around 6 am and no traffic, coming home won't be too bad at 3 or so,after 4:30 you're screwed

Ascension>Livingston. Not as many methheads in Ascension as Livingston

Do yourself a favor. Ride out there and see if you can handle the smell of the landfill. If you can handle it then have at it.
I thought the landfill smell was usually overpowered by the meth labs cooking up...

s this a decent place to live for a young couple? Would Working in BR and living there be ideal? Not OT baller or anything. Prefer something not cookie cutter.
The commute traffic will be horrible, but that's anywhere around BR.

If you’re commuting to Mid City and looking for a suburb, then Zachary is your answer. Low crime, better commute, good schools.

It wouldn't be bad at those times, but why not just move to mid city? I've lived in both and now live in mid city. I wouldn't move back to walker again, but look along walker north road. Lots of places in between there and north Corbin road.

Move to BR because we don't need anymore people in Livingston Parish.
Seriously though, Walker isn't that bad. It's growing and, as others have said, the commute to BR sucks if you have to be to work by 8 or 9. It's equally as bad in the afternoon. There are a lot of pretty decent restaurants...Albasha, Sombreros, Rotolo's Foo Chow, Sherwood Poboy and, if in need of a knuckle check, Sonic.
I live out here but am considering looking at apartments in BR to be closer to work and because of the commute.

So bite the bullet and realize everywhere in the BR metro will have traffic but some is worse than others? Walker seems like a decent place for a starter home

Live Oak/Watson - Unincorporated and require you to drive across Denham to access I12, Greenwell Springs or 190 to access main arteries to EBR proper. Lack of restaurants for the most part. Big issue-ZERO zoning and ordinances due to unincorporated status. Also, no municipal law enforcement due to above issues. Totally falls to LPSO.
I’ve lived in the city limits of Walker on the Western side or 447 for 5 years. I have never smelled the landfill. Not for a day. I understand many closer to 447 have. But I haven’t.
We are <2 miles from I-12 in Walker. We are <3 miles from I-12 at Juban. Likewise, we have the following within 5 miles:
Walk-Ons
Cafe American
Pot and Paddle
Moe’s Southwest Grill
P-Beau’s (Portobello’s spinoff)
Albasha’s
Hooters
Takumi (Hibachi)
Sarita’s
Sombreros
Rotolos
Cafe Phonecia
Don’s Seafood
Moo-Yah’s
Longhorn Steakhouse
Chili’s
Chicken Salad Chick
Movie Tavern
Salad Station
Po-Boy Express
Mr. Gatti’s
Chik-Fil-A
Canes
Walker High is a 5A HS that’s in the middle of a $25,000,000.00 expansion.
Zoning ordinances that require developers to build 1’ above BFE, we participate in NFIP, have a great water system and a responsive public works. The city is building a Hurricane Safe Room and also is finalizing a special needs baseball field that will be one of the few in America that allows special needs children to play rec league baseball.
Oh yeah, Our Lady of the Lake just built a stand alone ER in Walker and plans to expand on their office space already there. It has a specialty pediatric ER there as well.
Walker is a fantastic place to live.
ETA: Prior to building here, I grew up outside of city limit so between Denham and Live Oak. Walker wins. Hands down.

Walker is Livingston parish's proud inbreds. We are building our new office out there and I can feel the meth in the air every time I go down walker north\south. It's horrible.

I work at Citiplace and have to be at work by 7. If I leave home around 6:15, I'm usually getting into the parking lot around 6:30ish. Going to work in the morning, traffic only becomes an issue between Airline and the 10-12 split. I leave work at 3:30 and usually am getting off 12 at Juban sometime around 3:50ish. I don't think you would have any traffic issues normally.
Walker, like BR, isn't as bad as some of these people make it out to br. Even though Juban isn't part of Walker, there are a lot of shops, a grocery store, Movie Tavern and several restaurants not far away at Juban Crossing.

As a lifelong resident i give it a thumbs up. Does traffic suck, hell yes, but find me a spot around BR that doesn't. Gfunk did an excellent job outlining the city a couple of post above. And for the record, I must live a charmed life, yet to come across a meth lab.
