I think for most male crazy people they just need more testosterone. Look at all these sad liberal men and the ones doing violent things like antifa. If we just shot them up with a long acting testosterone bead in a week or two they’d like trump and get a job

Take 100 suicidal people and give them insurance with a $25 or $50 copay of mental health. How many would religiously go to their appointments and counseling and meetings? 5% maybe.

Insurance is a factor but not the only factor by any stretch. Parental/family involvement is probably the key factor, followed by friends/classmates/teachers having the nads to step up and try to help the person or report his behavior to authorities.

I’m all for an increase in mental health services. However, before I vote on a tax I want to see a plan for how the money will be spent.

Do you really think the issue is insurance? This dude flying the plane worked for the airport or airline. I'm sure he had mental health coverage.

I guess I missed the part where it was determined this guy was mentally ill prior to doing what he did.

And we used to commit people with mental health issues to state wards. Then feel good leftists bitched and had them shut down. Now you want us all to pony up again.

I wish we were still at that point, it’s way beyond that now. There is no mental illness, just loving individuals who choose not to conform to normal behavior. Wait, did I say normal? How dare any claim what normal is today and label anyone else that doesn’t fit the definition, instead let’s blame the government every time some idiot makes a personal choice to do something stupid because, God forbid, we hold anyone accountable for their own actions. And I realize this dude is dead, but there were probably opportunities to hold him accountable for the behavior that led to his final act of negligent stupidity.

This guy had good health insurance as an airline employee. Access to such care didn't matter.

His family says they saw no signs. So why would he go to psychiatrist?

I'm sick and tired of ppl expecting blank checks for healthcare, education, drug abuse, on and on.

The airline likely had an Employee Assistance Plan.
This gives access to mental health professionals 24/7.
Most large companies have such systems you can call for any issue 24/7. Mental Health and Substance Abuse being main focus.

MH should be a priority
Mobile Homes have really great potential to solve worldwide housing issues.

[quote]frick you. How bout airports not let baggage guys, or anyone that isn’t the designated pilot, near the cockpit of a plane?[/quote

A good portion of the scheduled maintenance of the aircraft requires access to the cockpit.

We need more asylums.

Agree. That's what the $18/year would help fund.

This is ONE example of ONE person in ONE profession that had the capability to destroy many other people due to mental illness. If the stigma fades and the ability to seek treatment was easier, we could be a better society.
I'm not for taxes, but feel this one needs to pass with flying colors. Everyone should be telling their family and friends to vote yes to this one particular bill. For $18/year (per family) you could be helping out a friend, neighbor or coworker and never even realize it. VOTE YES FOR MENTAL HEALTH BILL (only $18/year).

Edited to add that Yes, I do think we need more mental institutions opened. I also believe some individuals should be placed permanently in these places, others can go for short term "treatment" and be released. Some families cannot safely take care of these individuals no matter how much they try. Where are we going to get the money to run these "so called" mental institutions that were closed by Regan without assistance from the government? Yeah, I'd definitely like to see them take the tax dollars from other places but if we have to wait for that, we may be waiting a very long time. I personally would be willing to pay my $18/year to contribute to a mental institution that family members would know their loved ones were safely housed and no longer a threat to themselves or our community.

And don't tell me to put this on the politics board. I don't venture over there and am specifically talking to the non-political people.

No to all of this.

One fricking guy out of a nation of about 330 million, and you want to raise taxes? Nope.

How about we tackle a full audit of the federal govt first? There's only a minimum of $10 TRILLION unaccounted for. That's $30,000 for every person in the nation. The amount is really estimated at over $22 TRILLION. As I see it, the federal govt owes us all about $60k each. That money went somewhere but it isn't accounted for, so we should get it all back.

There would be far less mental illnesses if they didn't add a new mental illness each week that's not a mental illness to begin with.
