Troy test drove the Chevy Volt at the invitation of General Motors and he writes, "For four days in a row, the fully charged battery lasted only 25 miles before the Volt switched to the reserve gasoline engine." Troy calculated the car got 30 mpg including the 25 miles it ran on the battery. So, the range including the 9-gallon gas tank and the 16 kwh battery is approximately 270 miles.
It will take you 4.5 hours to drive 270 miles at 60 mph. Then add 10 hours to charge the battery and you have a total trip time of 14.5 hours. In a typical road trip your average speed (including charging time) would be 20 mph.

That's a fricking hybrid, you dolt. That vehicle is not designed to go long distance on electricity. Its rated for "19 to 86 all-electric miles"

Wait. Are we downvoting because it's a hot or because we disagree with the anti-EV rhetoric? So confused.

Not an engineer. Where's the additional electricity going to come from? The grid can barely support demand now.

This bot is “flooding the zone with shite” as Steve Bannon once famously advised. Sadly, some people will skim this bot bullshite and be convinced in some small way that hybrids (plug-in or conventional) are less efficient that ICE.

You can debate whether they’re more/less economical. But there is no argument about efficiency.

Mostly nuclear. Wind and solar would have to make fanciful, almost impossible leaps in technology to make any significant reduction in fossil fuel dependency.

That can’t be right.

It's way not right. I pay right at 10 cents per KWH. I'm assuming he pays 11.6 cents.

The oldest pole on my property was put in back in the early 80's and it's a 200 amp box. What do you consider new?

Guy/bot posts factually incorrect information. Claims everyone watches CNN.

That’s right. So correcting the math, the bot’s argument is destroyed.

I’ll bet Jerry can’t tell us why Don’s is better than Walk On’s. Or why it’s worth the drive to Sno’s.
