Anybody tip at the fast food window? Someone had to put that food together and bag it up.

It's called DOING YOUR JOB.

25 steaks, 25 chickens, and 25 potatoes. Done.

The kitchen staff puts it all in the to-go plates most of the time. She just closes it up and bags it. The order was also placed that morning, giving plenty of time to get it all done.

Considering her decision to take it to Facebook, plus her appearance, I have a difficult time believing she's decent at her job in the first place.

1) You should tip for a large to-go order (anything more than for two or three people eating).
2) Lots of people do not know about tipping for to-go orders.
3) Massive to-go orders like this one are usually picked up by a runner, not by the person paying for the order.
4) Churches are notoriously bad tippers.

This. I'd be peeved, but it's not so egregious to it deserves some ranting Facebook post since it's carry out.

Hell, I delivered $200 worth of pizza to a church one time in the middle of a severe thunderstorm. Carried that shite through the driving rain and brought every pizza in for them.

I got tipped a grand total of $0. I didn't go and cry on Facebook. I did what any normal person does and complained about it on a message board several years later.

She would have basically taken out of service for half the evening to work on this order I would expect. And when she’s not waiting, she’s not making money.

The restaurant should pay her for her time to do that. Oh wait they do. To go people aren't usually waiters.

The irony is that there are a lot of servers who would love the consistency of a steady paycheck a lot more than just hoping they don't get stiffed.

Exactly. Being an excellent server and being paid accordingly, regardless of whether or not the customer tips, would be a great deal. If the restaurant wants to call it a commission and pay 20% of gross receipts as incentive for upselling customers, so be it, but your hard work would be rewarded at all times.

The current system has its pros and cons for servers and guests alike - the owners are the ones benefitting across the board.

Exactly. The current system benefits customers who don't tip or don't tip well, servers who underreport tips, and restaurants for payroll taxes. The restaurant owners won't change because there is no benefit for them.

It’s never that simple. I’d guarantee every one of those steak orders were modified. Extra this, this on the side, in between med well and well (wants it well done but don’t burn it!). Taking that order alone and wringing it in probably took 30 min to an hour.

The black of the house cooks it and does the preliminary boxing, but she’d be in charge of boxing all the salads and bread up, making condiments and putting them in there, and making sure the order is right. That probably took her another 30 min.

And then if paid separate and everybody gave cash and wanted change, the cashing out would easily have take another 30 min.

It’s a hell of a lot of work and I’ve been there, done that. I hate the tipping system but until it changes that’s life. That girl essentially worked for free for half her shift, I’d be pissed too. Partly the churches fault, partly the fault of the system itself.

Not true, lots of restaurants the servers are in charge of taking the to go orders. It’s just whomever is closest to the phone. I’d say more have the servers do it than don’t. And even then the ones that do have someone else take the order, after they hang up the phone they hand it off to a server to take it from there.

Last time I went they brought me my food. Brought me napkins. Sauce. Came and asked when I needed a refill. And they took the trash away to throw away for me.

The only difference between what they did and what a server at a restaurant does was I walked up to the counter to order instead of them coming to my table. Everything else was just like a restaurant.

Sooooooooo......

game set match right there.

isn't it crazy that by providing great service, b/c you employ decent people and pay them accordingly, and hold them accountable for their jobs, a restaurant is rewarded with lines wrapping around the store for people to eat there. The food isnt' that great. They even pissed off gay people and no one really gave a shite.

Right. Because chick file has such an extensive menu and people are ordering 3 and 4 course meals there that need to be times.

You couldn't possibly be more ignorant on the topic

so you think it's harder to take an order from Chili's than it is from Chik Fil A?
They both require the ability to hear, then either write down, or tap a screen what you just heard, and that's it. It's doesn't matter if there are 2 things on the menu or 1000 things. you simply listen and enter it in. That's it.

My favorite to-go order complaint:

"We bought ten Shrimp Fettucini orders from you and you didn't give us forks! You expect us to eat it with our fingers?"

"Sir, we offered your person to-go silverware and he said that you didn't need it."

"And you listened to him?!"

Giving the church a refund was stupid but paying a tip on a takeout order is also stupid.
I've never given a tip on a takeout order in my life. Can't see a situation I ever would either.

That is the problem with the tipping concept: everyone’s idea of what deserves a tip and how much you should tip for various services is different. I wish the whole thing would just go away and every employer pay the wage the position deserves.

I would not have even thought of tipping on a to-go carry out order. I don’t think most people would. However, it’s obvious this women was tipped in the past so she felt she got stiffed. The only problem I have is the Church accepting the refund. They should have declined it as nothing was wrong with the food and the situation was handled.

100% chance you haven't waited tables

It's obvious because you have no idea what either job that you're comparing entails

You can always tell the cocksuckers that were not in the service industry.

Hey geniuses--- the restaurant expects you to PAY the salary of their employees.....

You think that is stupid? Fine, how about they triple the price of all the meals???

Dumb people ...... are now the majority......

Well, none of that sounds even remotely hard. All in a temperature controlled environment while she and the other waiters bitched about it.

You can definitely tell who has and who hasn't waited tables in this thread. I have not. And you know what. I bet it's not that damn hard. I'm sorry you think it's rocket surgery, but throwing some plastic wear into a bag is not deserving of 15% of the price of the meal.

You guys are making me want to order take out and not tip just to spite you. You sound like a bunch of babies.

Lots of trashy NTMFs in this thread

(Non tipping motherfrickers...that was a code a few of my coworkers used in my cocktail waitressing days).
