re: Waiters who bring your food, disappear for 30 minutes, then expect 20%

I used to tip 20% at Movie Tavern when it first started, and your waiter took your order, brought you the food, and then brought you the check.
Now I see the waiter/waitress once. When I order. Someone else brings my food and sometimes someone else drops off the check.
I’ve dropped the tip to about 10% now.

These fatasses will each guzzle a gallon of sweet tea.
At my favorite lunch spot, I always go sit at the bar. Same bartender just about every time. They have some baby glasses at this restaurant (only tea and water have free refills, I guess that's why they make them so small). Bartenders at that time are usually not parked behind the bar, because they are getting everything prepped for the night. My bartender usually sits a small pitcher with me, because I'll drink 3-4 glasses.
She's happy, I'm happy. All is well. 40% tip every time, but I don't expect/want her to be hoovered over me the whole time.

I waited tables from HS until 2 years after college when my wife graduated. Given that, the worst is when you are drinking booze and you need another $10 frickin drink. They are losing money by ghosting.
I will say though, it's pretty easy to have another table that is tearing your arse up with demands to the point someone with their food may think you are screwing around. But if it's one of those times like 9:30 at night, early happy hour, early lunch, or sometime when you are one of the only tables in the place then yeah that's inexcusable.

Prefer them to the waiters who are bugging me when I'm trying to eat my food.

Depends. If you run out of beverage, or if it obvious you are looking around for them, a good server will be there. Also have to factor on how busy the place is. They could be busting their butt trying to take care of a bunch of tables.
If it isnt incredibly busy and your needs are taken care of, one check in prior to getting your bill should be enough.
If you run out of drink and/or have other issues and they dont come around, then yes, you're right. Screw them.
Another rookie mistake: Bringing the bill and then forgetting about it for a long time. Can lose a great tip and undue previously stellar service with that one mistake.

It’s nice if there’s a tea pitcher for every table, but not every restaurant has that. At cheesecake bistro, these fat monsters drank so much and so fast that we’d constantly run out tea and would have to wait for more tea to brew.
But that was a poorly run restaurant.

Only thing to do before delivering your check is making sure drinks are filled.
I would imagine this is what he's upset about. I've never heard of anyone getting pissed at a waiter for not coming to check on them when they don't need anything.

Which is exhausting if you ever work at a restaurant that serves brunch. These fatasses will each guzzle a gallon of sweet tea. Soon as the glass is filled, it’s drained again and they’re waving it around as if they’ve been crawling through the desert suffering from thirst.
You are a terrible server. Get a new job. Attitude is 75% of the job. You have no understanding of how it works.

No Baw. The poster that said all fatasses drink a gallon of tea. If he is correct, give them the gallon of tea. The tip is then protected. I have never waited tables though, so I cannot state that what he stated as a concrete fact is the truth.

ETA: I now realize it was you that are waiting on all the fatasses. I am not the one that downvoted you. I will, if you would like me to prove it.

No, it’s not.

The tea at restaurants don’t come in gallons and there’s not enough pitchers for every table to have one. Tea must be brewed, and brewed by the waiters at some restaurants. And restaurants like to use small glasses, which requires more refills.
It’s been almost 20 years and I still hate those tubs of lard and their sweet tea obsessions.

Ah, someone else who’s never waited tables at a brunch. Another informed opinion. My experience is way in the past, anyway. But I’ll tell you, fat people aren’t quenched with attitude. They want gallons of sweet tea and they want it instantly.

What’s the OT’s obsession with servers and tipping? Like 6 threads a month.
It’s hard reading the OT when your a full time teacher and a part time restaurant server.

My wife and I are currently at Murphy's in Hammond. When we were seated we were asked if it would be ok if we share a menu. Reluctantly we agreed. It's not looking good as for the 20% tip for now.

I remember eating at NOLA, Emerils restaurant. The first time we were waited on by a large black guy. Third floor. That guy was great. On point in every thing he did. Showed my wife how to eat crawfish. Pinch and twist, then suck the head. 50% tip. The next time, the waitress was enamored with a group nearby. No refilling of drinks for us, actually she ignored us. The whole meal was a disaster. She didn't give a shite, so my party of 8 didn't either.
I was pissed. Walked out to the sidewalk. Still pissed. Manger tried to comp me.
It was too late. He tried to convince me that everything would be Okay.
I haven't been to New Orleans since.

Albert Einstein is widely credited with saying, “The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, but expecting different results.”
I agree with him above someone who could never get the tea thing correct. If you sell 500 gallons of tea per day, have 501 ready. If the glasses are too small, get bigger ones. It seems simple to me but I never waited tables.
Bigger glasses, more tea available. Hunt your old manager down and Pekoe him upside the head.
