So let me make sure I understand. You’re telling me there is a freaking MASTERS degree to take care of this?!?

Still trying to figure out why ppl are dogging urban forestry...

One reason is that the Southern Urban Forestry program exists as a result of federal social engineering. Politicians use the US Department of Agriculture and US Forest Service grants to redistribute wealth and mitigate bullshite claims that they discriminated against black people in the past.

It really depends on what she plans on doing with the degree. Most people who get their bachelors in urban forestry should likely try to get out into the field by becoming an arborist and getting certification.

All in all, her best bet is to look on the west US & certain parts of Canada. They have some of the best greenspace management opportunities

It's a story. That's what news stations do, look for stories. It doesn't make me mad that it's on their website.

Or maybe its a sort of specialized sub-sect of urban planning? That's kind of my impression at least. Some vaguely-functional cities actually have large and/or numerous green spaces that require management and planning.

Good for her. Would you rather hear about another senseless murder in the city? At least it’s uplifting news.

If it happened, yes. Most citizens want to be made aware of a homicide that occurred, for a variety of obvious reasons.

Urban forestry is like landscape architecture mixed with telling arborists what to do (sometimes getting your hands dirty).

Don't get it confused with real forestry. Real forestry involves science, GIS, economics, probability calculations, experience, hands-on work, people skills, knowing how to schmooze governmental officials, and a multitude of knowledge in many areas (heavy equipment and civil engineering being predominant)
