WAFB: BRPD not ready to determine motive in LSU student’s shooting death

With speculation surrounding the shooting death of LSU senior Allison “Allie” Rice, Baton Rouge police officials are clarifying the status of their investigation.
As of Tuesday afternoon, a spokesman for BRPD says investigators have not yet determined a motive in the shooting and are not ready to say whether they believe the shooter or shooters targeted Rice or if she was a victim of random circumstance.
However, BRPD spokesman Sgt. Don Coppola says their investigators are working hard to find the people responsible and are actively following up on leads. District Attorney Hillar Moore added that all local agencies are doing what they can to help in the investigation.

The marketing major’s death shocked many in the Baton Rouge community, in part due to the unexplained circumstances of the shooting. Rice’s father says her violent end revealed a new evil to his family.
“None of us are immune to what happened to Allie last week. This could happen to any of us. The violence, the lack of care for life, the lack of concern for life right now. It just baffles me. You know there’s so much crime going in Baton Rouge right now. I mean, this has really opened a lot of people’s eyes,” said Paul Rice.
Rice was a 2017 graduate of Dutchtown High School and set to graduate from LSU in the spring. She was an employee at The Shed BBQ in Baton Rouge, and the restaurant is now offering its own $10,000 reward for information that leads to a conviction in this case.

Why did you jump to that conclusion?

They must know something because everything seems to point to random occurrence. Unless they just don’t want to say 100% either way.

Why does motive even matter? Find the murderer first and then maybe ask him why he murdered an innocent person.

Why is this important now? I believe it would be best to try and find the perps. Seems like they're putting this kind of shite out to the public to try and preemptively deflect the public outrage when it comes out who did it.

Another victim was found with two holes in their neck, drained of blood.
This cape was found at the scene.
Police are baffled.

How, in any way, was that statement an attempt to blame the girl? By "targeted" I assumed for robbery as opposed to a random killing.

I take her death seriously. I do NOT take bullshite by BRPD seriously when they are playing dumber than they actually are.

Well either way, they targeted her, did they not?
The most likely motive is that they have no respect or care for human life and killed someone because they wanted to. But I doubt that would be an official motive settled on by our magnificent police force.

They (and others) are more concerned with optics.

I’m going to go way out on a limb and give the benefit of the doubt to authorities.
There’s no reason why anyone would shoot her, therefore, BRPD doesn’t know the motive.
A true senseless act of random violence.
Also, they probably have zero leads or suspects, so they don’t have a clue and aren’t anywhere near solving this murder.

oh really? Are they thinking this was a hate crime? that a pretty young white girl was targeted because of her race? as opposed to her being an easy carjacking victim cause she was a pretty young white girl?
seems like a racist hate crime to me, regardless.

But local news is in on the cover up!

If that savage beatdown of an old man in front of his family who was told he "stopped in the wrong neighborhood" a few years ago did not qualify, then this certainly will not.

Or maybe they know they’re being scrutinized and are responding to it.
Keep the screws turning on them.
