quote:

A University of Bristol academic has succeeded where countless cryptographers, linguistics scholars and computer programs have failed—by cracking the code of the 'world's most mysterious text', the Voynich manuscript. Although the purpose and meaning of the manuscript had eluded scholars for over a century, it took Research Associate Dr. Gerard Cheshire two weeks, using a combination of lateral thinking and ingenuity, to identify the language and writing system of the famously inscrutable document.

Many people have tried to decode it. Some believed that it was a hoax or even just made up gibberish until now.

So basically because no one has known what it's said since forever, we still wont actually know if this dude's decoding is full of shite or not.... got it

I'm sure he'll share how he decoded it and that process/algorithm or whatever will be vetted by experts.

Its like a hugely complicated math equation/solution being vetted by other mathematicians.

The placement of the -ly here changes the meaning.

"It uses an extinct language. Its alphabet is a combination of unfamiliar and more familiar symbols. It includes no dedicated punctuation marks, although some letters have symbol variants to indicate punctuation or phonetic accents. All of the letters are in lower case and there are no double consonants. It includes diphthong, triphthongs, quadriphthongs and even quintiphthongs for the abbreviation of phonetic components."

It sounds exactly like the grammar some of the Millennials use when posting on here. No punctuation, no paragraphs, no capital letters, etc.

AND... Here it comes from the Academic doing the decoding.

The next step is to use this knowledge to translate the entire manuscript and compile a lexicon, which Cheshire acknowledges will take some time and funding, as it comprises more than 200 pages.

"Now the language and writing system have been explained, the pages of the manuscript have been laid open for scholars to explore and reveal, for the first time, its true linguistic and informative content."

Umm...just run that shite through a computer now if it’s truly cracked

No need for “academic funding”, just grab a random comp sci student and hand him the crack algorithm with the parsed digitized document

This link goes in to a lot more detail. It appears that the guy really has decoded it. Articles are confirming it.

quote:

This figure shows Folio 19 left: Borage (Borago officinalis). The first line of the accompanying text reads: ‘panais-or o nauira æo arna o péor omor or é’epe a doméas t’ (the narrow golden taproot, its bark has the potency to kill the domestic/family belly). Borage oil has a long history as a toxic uterine stimulant for inducing miscarriage and abortion, which was commonly practised to deal with unwanted pregnancies as a form of birth control

They already knew this text was related to botany. How is this guy getting credit for that?

Confirming it I guess.

Exactly. This guy could make up anything and there is no one else on Earth to call him out on it. Could be the biggest troll of all time.
