Wonder what kind of camera he was using? I seem to remember cameras back then being so big you had to put them on your shoulder.

Reminds me of this other video from 1987 of a guy talking to people in the 7/11.

Found it: "2:30am at a 7-11 near Disney World - 1987" LINK

I worked at a McD's (the one on Sherwood) back around that time, mostly at the Quarter Pounder station. It looked very much the same as this one.

The noise is all the cooking timers going off. The procedure was that you reach into a small freezer next to the grill that held the frozen patties and pull out the required number. They were separated by paper so they were easy to pull apart. You put them on the grill and press a button on the timer.

The timer would beep at you when it was time to salt them and press them down with a searing tool. Then it beeped again to tell you to turn the meat.

You did that and pressed another button to set off another timer, which would beep when it was ready to come off the grill.

All those beeps are what you're hearing in the background of the video.

While the meat was cooking you'd turn around and prep the buns - pull them out of the packaging, toss anything with mold on it, put condiments on, and get them ready for the meat when it came off the grill. Once the sandwiches were fully assembled you'd wrap the up and put them up front for use.

The manager would yell back what the cadence should be - "Turn 4" meant put down another four patties every time you turned over a set that was already on the grill. "Sear 4" meant another four when you seared a set, a much faster cadence than "turn". And when rush hour was done he'd just call back for the exact number needed to replenish the warmer.

Busiest time I ever had was on a July 4th. Nothing was going on and we were on a short crew when suddenly a bus showed up filled with a travel football team. I got a "Sear 12" that time.

Good times (not).
