It is a beautiful park. Very humbling. I stood at the hornets nest for a long time trying to imagine the sheer amount of lead being fired in both directions. Somber, humbling place.

I’ve heard it is very nice and comparable to Chickamauga. I was very saddened to see Vicksburg was a tourist trap and glorified the victory of the barbarian Grant.

That's not how it happened at all. The Confederates charged the 77th Ohio and were soon swarmed by an entire brigade of Union infantry. Forrest was lucky to escape with his life as he was severely wounded in the encounter.

Isn’t that the time Forest tried to charge a full brigade and had to grab a yankee as a human shield to get away? He managed to make it back to his lines, but got shot in the arse for his trouble?

Covered the rebel retreat but I’m sure he would tell you that wasn’t his high point in the war.

We visited Shilo several years ago on one of our x-country trips. I still get chills when I think about what happened there.

On a side note, make sure you eat here when you go.

Hagy's Catfish Hotel Restaurant

They were closed the day we visited, but were nice enough to let us park our Travel trailer and grill hamburgers in their parking lot. We took a dip in the Tennessee river afterwards.

Visit the indian mounds also. They was a great bonus when visiting Shiloh. If I remember correctly, it is part of the driving tour.

I've hiked all over Shiloh as both a Boy Scout and a troop leader.

We went every year with our scout troop here in Bham. Good times.

The sunken road, then the steamboat ramp, repeat...
Shiloh was an important battle, with an incredibly interesting story but really not a lot to see besides beautiful wilderness. Chickamauga, Andersonville, etc. have pretty cool museaums.
