I disagree with your reasoning but there are ENTIRELY too many stupid people who do this and get pissed when they get taken like this. Man up and stay up til 8:30 or turn your lights off and don't participate at all. If you do not have anyone that can pass out candy as you and your family trick or treat, bring candy with you and hand out to kids walking by. Unconventional but so is this newer trend of leaving candy unattended.
People who think that their morals represent others need to get a life check. Half of the population is not very decent. Leave candy out with no rules nor repercussions and get what you pay for.

I used to put out a bowl with a big sign that said TAKE ONE EACH. Then I would hide in the big bush next to the porch and watch. Wearing a black flight suit, black gloves, a black hockey mask and armed with a chainsaw (chain removed). When kids took more than one, out I popped while cranking the saw. It was a blast.
