Love that. I lived in an apratment on the bay in Pensacola in my early 20's. We would have to take the pictures off the walls on the days the Blue Angels practiced because they would almost scrape the pine tree tops around the apartment complex. I miss watching that.

I love when the Blue Angels are performing and one of them sneaks off. The rest of the team will be distracting the crowd while the one that snuck off comes in from behind the crowd low and with his burners on.

Everyone one of those jets was flying below the speed of sound. As fast as they look, they can all fly much much faster.
F-15: 1,875mph
F-16: 1,500mph
F-18: 1,190mph
I would love to see an F-15 flying at almost 1,900 mph!

Brought back memories of my Army time in the Mohave dessert, NTC Barstow California. These F16s?? would fly over like this but then they dropped bombs in the distance that literally shook the earth!

Not jets, but was up on a ridge one time when 3 C130's came over at about 100 feet it seemed. Was pretty awesome.

When I was in Grad School, I had a pretty nice Stereo. I wouldn't have called it audiophile grade, but it was able to "rock the house" so to speak. One of the test CD's I had contained some of the first all digital (D.D.D) recording of various things like cannon shots and jet flyovers.
Well after midnight one night, the two young ladies that that lived in apartment below me (whom I never really met them) got into an argument that was loud enough to wake me up. I had to get up early the next AM and was fairly well P.O'ed. So I took my speakers and turned them down to the floor, turned up the bass and the sub, and cued the CD up to that spot. I then turned it on pretty much wide open. I quickly muted the volume after the track was over.
It shook the entire appt block. I put my ear to the floor and listened. I heard something like this...
"What was that?"
"I Dunno. I think a jet just flew over."
"Wow it was awfully low!"
"Let's go look and see if we can see it."
Several other neighbors were all out on the stoop trying to spy the mystery plane. I went back to bed. Their argument was over. I don't think they ever knew it was me.

Probably watched/read that story nearly a dozen times and it never gets old.

By the time you hear it you are already dead.

quote:I remember the last airshow my dad and I went to, about a year before he passed, was at Robbins AFB just outside of Macon, GA. The Thunderbirds were the featured attraction. At one point, one of the solos flew down the flight line right near stall speed "so you can see all of the detail of this fighter." It was really a distraction, and just as he cleared air show center, hear comes the other solo hauling arse at mach 0.95 from behind the crowd and over the top.

If you like warbird photography, take a look at pictures taken from the Mach Loop near RAF Lakenheath. The pilots fly through the valleys and canyons, and you can actually get photos from the ridgelines above, so you are looking down on the planes.
