Looked to me like they were fine where they were before they drove INTO the fiery forest.

They drove down and got close to a lake is how they survived.

That’s not how these fires behave. I’ve driven through a much smaller wildfire. Flames shooting 100+ feet in the air and the wind turbulence the fires generate are fricking terrifying.

I'm not watching the video, somebody want to tell me why someone would drive through a forest fire?
It doesn't seem like a good idea.

Hypothetical, they were at the end of a dead end road and it was the only way to escape. Or there was a worse fire coming from the other direction. It looked like they lucked out and the flame front had already passed through. They wouldnt have made it otherwise.

They were hiking and trying to get out.
After coming on a tree blocking the road they reversed all the way back to the lakes edge and called for help. They were picked up by a park ranger in a boat.
Shortly after reversing back to the lake the car caught fire and burned up.

Ironically, if they had to take to the lake to escape the fire, they may have died of hypothermia that water is cold.

Yea, I'd be pretty damn scared there

Can't imagine how fast their hearts had to be beating, putting it in reverse and navigating back through that. Man that was intense.

I hate millenials as much as the next guy but if the dad was 70 the son could be 50.

I was in glacier last summer when a modest 500 acre fire went to 5,000 acres in less than 12 hours and to 20,000+ in 36 hours based on a shift in the wind.

I kept expecting for them to go around a curve and find a fallen, burning tree trunk blocking the road.
That Would have ended their trip and their lives. i guess it wasnt their time. Lucky day for them.

Except there was a tree blocking the road

They leave the lake drive thru fire, turn around and go back to lake and get saved. WTF. I'd rather die of hypothermia than burn to death. Not a good decision to try to leave WATER in the middle of a forest firs.
