30 miles is what I'm reading. Wow. To see it from an elevated position must be surreal. The videos are clear, but what if this had happened at night?

It does have a way of letting us know how insignificant we are. From a microscopic brain-eating amoeba in a lake to gravity teaming up with a flood and an earthquake to wipe out entire towns......we're just along for the ride.

An initial study based on the analysis of satellite images by Planet Labs indicates that a glacier-inclusive flood occurred in the Lhende River due to a snow-rock landslide that took place on the Nepal-China border approximately 20 kilometers northeast of the Nepal-China Rasuwagadhi border crossing.

The scenes out of Nepal today are horrendous. Catastrophic doesn't seem to do it justice.
It looks as though the flood emanated from the slopes of Langtang Lirung, a 7,234 m (23,734 ft) high peak. Satellite imagery (see post below) from
@NDRRMA_Nepal shows a massive landslide on the slopes of Langtang Lirung.
Google Earth imagery shows that this location is heavily glaciated and has suffered from big landslides in the recent past. The path of the slide down the valley towards the border crossing matches perfectly.
I don't know for sure if this is the cause, but it looks very likely.

That’s an amazing amount of mud and debris deposited in those valleys if imagery from satellites can clearly show it.

It helps that anything with foliage was swept away or buried. The lack of green is in stark contrast to the surrounding area. Satellites can see lack of foliage after storms, but this is remarkable comparatively.

I kept saying to myself "get up the mountain, get up the mountain!" but I don't think any human could've run up the mountain high enough in time.
