Use of deadly force is not applicable if someone is running away from you. It's amazing that people just accept this as the norm from cops.
So on the other hand you are cool with accepting running from the cops as a norm. Don’t run don’t get shot or they could just stop being criminals but I guess that would be too hard.

Wow, that's as bad as the black woman being shot through her window here in Dallas.
Note to youths of all colors. If you are going to run from the cops wear your skinny jeans, having to pull up your britches every other step really slows you down...

Many if not most people who run do so because they have some sort of warrant. Oftentimes from simply missing court on minor matters, even traffic tickets. Choot em?

And quite possibly will get you shot, maybe in the back, maybe in the back of the noggin.

This was the actual scenario they pitched me in a police interview. Suspect reported to have a violent history and possible gun running into a school. What do you do?
The correct answer is issue verbal commands loudly and if he doesn’t respond, you shoot him. He’s endangering an entire school at that point.
Video looks bad, but if these circumstances are correct, he made the right call. Even shooting towards a school.
It'll be interesting to see how much consideration is given to the daycare being closed. In that moment, I doubt the officer is thinking about what day it is and if the daycare were open.
Either way, you make a bad decision to run from the cops, you accept what happens. Don't run, 99.9% of the time, you don't get shot.

So in your mind cops are judge, jury and executioner.
Got it.

The police chief apparently did not even mention it. Which is probably wise because if the shooter officer did have that as a major factor in his actions, that's no less negligent than any other incorrect assumption that was a causal factor.

The lack of any toys, or kids, would have been a clue that the place was closed to anyone with situational awareness.

If you're dumb enough to run from the cops over a traffic warrant (or anything really) the world is better off without you.

Definitely one of those "knew or should have known" things.
I'm fully aware, respectful and appreciative of the dangerous duties they're tasked with. I appropriately yield to their authority. But the saying is completely true...with great power comes great responsibility. I didn't find this incident to even be a very close call. Cannot believe there was such unanimous agreement as to justification. Ive personally witnessed one case with much more argument for justification than this one that still went through grand jury, indictment and resulting trial. Officer was acquitted in the end. This matter should have at least been presented to grand jury.

Ehhh it ain't that bad.
That shooting is the worst I've heard of. Cop shot a law-abiding woman in her own damn house through a window. That is absurd.

It's simple....they dont want to go to jail and they have that momentary (and yes, completely idiotic, careless, stupid) belief that they can get away. They usually don't, and they face yet more more severe new charges, often taking it from misdemeanor to felony with the potential prison time. But that's the penalty in a civilized society, not summary execution. I feel like you probably agree.
If during the stupidity they actually do bring justifiable deadly force upon themselves, then so be it. This, IMO, isn't one of those instances.

so its a murder suspect ( brother who was driving the car later convicted) running from the cops and jumps a fence into a daycare center, and can be seen reaching for his waist
If these facts are true I don’t blame the officer.
Race of either individual does not matter

I ran from cops when I was 16 when they busted house parties and we were drinking.
You think the world would be better off if me and all my friends were dead?

Honestly, this changes it for me. frick whatever he might have done had he not been killed.
Throw in those 2 pieces of the story, and it does change things.
Not sure what all the actual facts are but if he is indeed a murder suspect, and that was a Daycare..ehhhh...I think if anyone of us had our kids in that Daycare, we would change our tune and probably support what that cop did.
Haven't read through the thread yet, so I'm sure there are updates, but would like to see all the facts laid out.
Did the kid die?
Posted on 10/25/19 at 10:13 am to Roaad
If he had committed a felony and fled where innocent people could be hurt after identifying as police he can shoot to stop. Just because the shot killed the kid doesn’t mean it’s murder.

His brother was the person they were looking for.

Well, this was in the open air public, but there was no one at the daycare where it occurred....it was closed.

he can shoot to stop
Where do you get this from?
