What I’m about to ask has nothing to do with this situation, but what if you’re not doing anything wrong and a cop decides you are?

Happened three separate times to me. The downside of having a common name twice and once for driving a truck the same color as the guy they were looking for.

Actually stopped 5 times in a week or so with the truck deal.

One actually told me he could have tazed or tackled me for simply getting out of my truck in my own damn driveway. I didn't even know he had pulled in behind me.

I understand that cops have a very difficult job as there are lots of pieces of shot out there, but this is an asinine take.

We shouldnt fricking fear public employees. We shouldn’t fear law enforcement. And we certainly should fear for our damn lives just because we run from a cop.

You think a bunch of 16 year olds drinking should be afraid they may get shot if they run from the cops?

Kids drinking no. But if you hang out with a murderer and run from the cops, yes you should have a fear that things could go very badly for you over a simple wrong movement.

So you didn't do anything wrong and obeyed the cops orders and nothing bad happened to you? Hmmm... go figure.

Apparently you have reading comprehension problems.

The only reason he didn't taze or tackle me is he chose not to. He clearly said he could have. Even though I had done nothing illegal.

eta-He gave me NO ORDERS.

Not even going into the fact that he also accused me of driving the perps truck and expecting me to know where he was. I told him to run the plates.

Yeah, you could sit here all day long and come up with examples/scenarios where things could go tragically wrong through no fault of the harmed or deceased party. Not to mention friendly fire casualty potential.

Which of course is why, as we know, the suggested action is unquestionably prohibited as a general matter.

I'm not saying cops are perfect by any means, and there aren't exceptions, but generally speaking if you don't break the law, you don't have anything to worry about.

Cool. Doesn’t address what I said.

K?

Cop saw him go for a weapon when he was trying to pull up saggy pants.

He ran, he was feared to be armed. From the daycare? Camera we can see it wasn't a gun. But the cop saw reaching and grabbing motion on a presumed armed fleeing subject. Good shoot. It sucks for the cop. But all the kid had to do was not run like a fool.

Just to be sure, you don't support the freedom of police to draw and shoot any and all suspects/persons who run off, let's say on foot, do you? I guess that's a leading question bc I'm hoping it's a no. But you have the right to believe as you wish.

Keep in mind a good many of those situations occur before the cop is able to identify the person, thus they don't know if it a missed traffic court date warrant issue, or whatever else it might be about.

So you matched the description of a suspect the police were looking for, they figured out that you weren't that person, didn't taze or tackle you, and you're still complaining about the way cops do their jobs. I'm going back to work. I'm not going in circles with ignorant pussies.

But there was no weapon. So how was he going for one? Seems like a irreversible mistake on the part of the shooter.

I guess since jumpy mcrabbitson resisted arrest and failed to comply we won't have a lengthy trial and put up our tax dollars to cloth and feed his dumbass in prison. Pull your pants up, quit breaking the law, and when you do and get arrested - DO NOT fricking resist.

Parents and media are teaching criminals to resist instead of their right to remain silent.

I dont necessarily disagree with those things.....dont be a jagoff, don't resist, obey commands and sort things out later, etc. ETA...I support all that, and then some in fact.

BUT people have been pulling away and running from cops forever. There'd be like 5 police shootings per episode of COPS if this was the standard. You really can't fix stupid. It's true.

Again, I of course have no problem whatsoever with deadly force if a corresponding threat is clear. But that action as an acceptable response in any and all running situations....hell I think we'd be up for something similar to war crimes on the world stage.

I remember back in the day every other car chase on COPS ended with an 18 wheeler (usually in cooperation with the pursuit) nailing a motherfricker while attempting to block the road.

Does this not happen anymore on cops?

Look the tools are what you got.
And again from on perspective it's clearly the pants. But from the cop's behind the suspect and to the right. It's an elbow in motion and an arm going down to where a gun can be in a holster, belt, or pocket.

He's out of range on the taser, presumed armed, no civilians around him, and running. It's simple math
