Crazy video of a fire crew bugging out as a bushfire overwhelms them.
YouTube
Brass balls abound in the New South Wales Fire Brigade/Rural Fire Service.
EDIT: shite. Just noticed in the description that it was in Nowra, New South Wales. That is where I lived and worked for five years, and still have family in the region.

I have anxiety watching that. I assume they are okay because tape is out, but holy shite was that close.

I'm sure they were okay too because of the video release.
My brother-in-law was in the NSW Fire Brigade for about ten years back in the early 2000's. He did a lot of the body repair work on the trucks for the entire Sydney region. With the Chirstmas bushfires of 2001, he said there were dozens of trucks that came it with fire damage.
Some trucks were abandoned in place when the engines would rev up and suck in tons of smoke and hot embers and catch fire.

Wonder what the temp was outside the truck...
That's a pretty damn tense video.

Those tail lights from the vehicle in front.. What happened to it? You don't see it later in the video.

If you ever get a chance to go hiking in an area after a fire like that, do it. I made a ~12 mile hike into a two week old fire zone about ten years ago and once you get completely into the zone it gets real eerie - nothing’s alive, no birds, no squirrels, no insects, nothing, and it boggles the mind how you can hike for hours and see total devastation.

That’s the point where i would legit be scared.
Fire like that moves so freaking fast

Reminds me of a story my father-in-law told me. Back in the late 70's, the family lived in Blaxland in the Blue Mountains outside of Sydney. They had some bad fires that year, and they got to within a few blocks of their house. He was up on the roof with the garden hose, just trying to put out the hot embers that were falling. He said he saw this black cloud approaching, and then he was enveloped in it. The cloud were all of the flying insects escaping from the smoke. It took about 10-15 seconds for it to pass him. It was a bizarre thing to see.
And tons of kangaroos hauling arse. He said at times there would be as many as 20 or 30 hopping down the street at a time.

I bet the gold nugget detectorists and opal hunters in Australia are going to have a field day when this is all over. And watching all of those types of shows, I can see how the outback underbrush can blaze like it is. Terrible situation down there.

Looks like they made the truck out of the same material as they make airplane black boxes
