My pops as well was diagnosed with colon cancer. He had a foot or so of colon removed and is now cancer free. He didn't even have to take chemo

Sir, you are in my thoughts and prayers as are your family members as well as they will be, in a sense, going through this with you.

I am an RN as is my son who is an oncology nurse and deals with this daily. My advice to you:

1. Get "right with God" as they say, better yet get Jesus in your life. I know there are a lot of atheists on this board but believe me when I tell you that the peace and comfort that only he brings will surely take away so much stress that is the worse thing you can have as you fight this disease.

2. See the best doctors and treatment center you can get. From what I hear, Emory is a very good place.

3. Get on board with the nutrition aspect of fighting cancer. Although some oncologists don't emphasize it as much as they should, it is very important and will aid this fight as much as the chemo/radiation will. And especially with colon cancer that's a fact.

4. Finally, surround yourself with your family and positive, loving friends and family. Your attitude will be the thing that leads the way in this endeavor. You were brave enough to post on this board and I have no doubt that you will lead a good fight and beat this thing.

With all that said I and no doubt others will continue to pray for you and have you and your family in our prayers. Stay strong brother and may God Bless you always.

Totally agree with all of these strong points, well done. I would only add a couple things; a) don't be afraid to recruit some prayer warriors. the more the better. some people have a direct line to the God almighty. b) get to know your health care workers, i.e., Nurses & staff. when your head is fogged the treatment center or hospital is hard to navigate. from my personal experience they have bureaucracy & process that confuse you & don't make walking around sense. having someone on the 'inside' helps greatly.

lastly, i could list you a number of positive things cancer did for me. if you are willing to tackle this as listed above you too will be able to see the positive things.

good luck my brother. stay strong, stay encouraged, stay in the WORD

Good sign if it's operable. I hope everything works out well for you.

Agree. Discuss nutrition / diet with your health care providers.

Look into a ketogenic diet as an adjunct to complement standard medical therapy

Stay positive. Modern medicine is amazing, so there's a good chance you'll be OK.

I am pretty numb and, well, scared. Has anyone else been through this and maybe offer advice?
Being scared is normal. Don't be ashamed of it at all.

I was terrified when my doctor woke me up during a routine colonoscopy in September, 2006 to tell me he had found a cancerous tumor in my colon. My world felt like it was collapsing when he said it.

But after surgery and chemo, here I am enjoying being in remission more than 9 years later. It's not a death sentence.

If anything it made me appreciate life even more. And it taught me to not sweat the small stuff. What I might have considered a crisis BC (before cancer) I now just think of it as just a minor inconvenience.

If it's any consolation, I had a relative diagnosed with early colon cancer about five years back. A couple surgeries and chemo and it's gone. Not to say that's easy, but it's not an automatic death sentence thing.

That's fantastic to beat cancer.

But this:

Doesn't match the way you post here in regards to personal attacks.

You'll be fine. Cancer isn't what it used to be. My mom is in her mid 70s, diagnosed with bi-lateral kidney carcinoma about 10 years ago, kidney and a half removed...diagnosed with Thyroid Cancer about 5 years ago, thyroid removed...cancer free today and strong as ever. Scary stuff for sure, but entirely beatable.

You're in for a tough patch coming up. Stay strong, lean on your faith and find joy. I really believe you have to balance the pain and despair with laughter and joy. Praying for your resolve and your quick arse-kick of cancer.

Had a sentinel lymph node biopsy a few days ago and am waiting on the pathology to see if it spread.
