Have been informed I have colon cancer and must begin treatment immediately including surgery.

I am pretty numb and, well, scared. Has anyone else been through this and maybe offer advice? Thanks - amitch

Sorry man. Prayers sent.

In addition to whatever treatments your doctor is prescribing, I suggest you do some research on diet and cancer and start making changes if you want the best chances to beat this thing.

You're one of the vegan guys? Or near vegan? I am too, but fall off wagon often.

OP, I touched on this in my previous post and this poster hits it too. He seems to hit it reasonably. Casty you may want to link him to some sites that are less militant in their views. Many I have read are all "cancer treatment is shite and you can cure it with kale". I paraphrase but I am sure you've read similar. Some of those sites can drown the OP and scare him.

Another SEC Brother in my prayers. The medical treatments for these things are truly phenomenal, just keep your head up and fight through it the best you can.

Stay positive. I had a friend go through this, it was tough but they were able to remove it.

Yes, sir, near vegan. I'm not 100% convinced that NO meat is a good answer. I think that MUCH less meat than we eat is ideal.

I hate to try linking to specific articles, because the science on both sides can be refuted, which is why I suggested he research it on his own and come up with what he thinks is best.

I think vegan/near vegan is best. But I also know vegans who eat like shite. The term vegan only says what one does not eat, it doesn't describe what exactly TO eat.

I prefer to think of my diet as a mostly plant-based diet. No processed junk, regardless of whether it's "vegan" or not. I do eat small amounts of meat regularly, though.

Good luck, OP

Not personally affected, but a family member and two close friends were. All are survivors for 10 plus years; all remain cancer free. I would suggest you get in touch with other survivors for your main supporters and have faith.

Prayers for your speedy recovery.

I fear that will be my end due to many issues I've had.

Sending positive vibes and prayers your way. Just remember, you can't accomplish anything that you don't believe you can. You gotta know you'll get through this. As dra said, the mind is powerful. Stay positive and fight your arse off.

My dad was diagnosed with colon cancer 10 years ago. He had no problems, but the Dr found a tumor the size of a lemon. They cut out a foot or so of his intestines and had chemo. He has been cancer free for 10 years now.
