I've been on both sides of colon cancer without having ever had it myself. I know people personally who caught it in the early stages and are healthy as can be now. Unfortunately, my mom's wasn't noticed until it was very advanced and we lost her a couple months ago. That being said, the treatment process is a bitch on some people and isn't bad on others at all. But with a positive "Bring It On" attitude and a strong family/friends support system it's very beatable, as proven by the countless survivors. You can do it! Prayers are with you and your family!
My mother was Easter Sunday.
Colon cancer is a fight but is very treatable and I have a wonderful friend who had it in her mid 30's and just celebrated ten years cancer free. Don't be afraid to ask questions and face the treatment head on and be aggressive. Have your wife with you so you can have discussions and don't miss anything.
That said cancer affects everyone in some way, shape or fashion but the treatment now is amazing and the health care professionals in this field are some of the smartest, most caring people on the planet. Trust God will be with you and don't give up. Don't ever give up. It is a winnable fight.
Good luck my friend.

My dad battled colon cancer for four years until he passed away at the beginning of the year.

Here's some hope for you:
Colon cancer has pretty high "cure" rates, if you can call them that. I have a really good friend who was discovered to have stage 4 colon cancer. We all thought he was a goner.
That was six years ago, and he's still around, living a very normal life, and, best of all, he's cancer free.
I know you're scared. I would be, too, but make sure you go and get the best care available. ALWAYS get at least a second opinion, if not a 3rd. Do what the doctors tell you to do. Pray, because prayer works. Prayers sent for you.

My uncle went through this starting 2 years ago.
Opted against surgery and went another route (to keep his manhood in his terms). Spent about 9 months going to the clinic twice a week for treatment, and so far it looks like everything has worked out.
Good luck with everything, saying a prayer for a speedy recovery.
ETA: My apologies, I somehow thought prostate cancer, which is what my uncle had. Regardless, praying for you.

Stage 1 or IIA have a high survival rate so I hope it's one of these.
Prayers.

Pour yourself a drink. Enjoy it. Give yourself the night to think, to fear and wonder. Then, when you wake up tomorrow, resolve that you will fight like a motherfricker. If nothing else, make that fight SIGNIFY you, Bro. I'm pulling for you. Matter of fact, I just sent a prayer up for you. Get after it tomorrow man. Start early.
Solid advice.

my Dad went through it. Had to get a few feet of Colon removed and go through chemo for a bit.
He came out of it fine and healthy. If caught early Colon Cancer can be treated very effectively. You will be fine.

Sad to hear
Hopefully it's confined to the colon and surgery is curative
Good luck and best wishes

If caught early enough you will be OK - at least for a good number of years.
I had radical prostate (stage 4) surgery 5 years ago - with intense radiation followup. Today, no trace of residual prostate cancer.
However in the biopsies they did on lymph nodes, the discovered stage 4 mantle cell lymphoma - untreatable at the time, but my case was asymptomatic so they decided to do a 'watch' on it instead of immediate oncology. Two years ago I was asked to participate in a clinical trial on a new chemotherapy and that has substantially reduced the cancer. Prognosis is good.
Get to a good hospital where the doctors know what they are doing - MDAnderson in Houston is the absolute best in the nation.
If you can get there, you will be in great hands and miracles happen every day.
in any event, stay strong and enjoy every minute you have.

Sorry to hear it. I'm probably gonna get flamed for this, but after seeing your diagnosis, I clicked on your name to see recent posts. One the first page I saw the terms "ribeye", "pizza party", and something about Thanksgiving overeating.
I know people usually don't even think about their diet having anything to do with their sicknesses, but they are closely linked.
In addition to whatever treatments your doctor is prescribing, I suggest you do some research on diet and cancer and start making changes if you want the best chances to beat this thing.

Once you pick a doctor, don't read health message boards regarding the disease. Only the extreme people post there. You have to make the decision to fight. Cancer is not a death sentence like it was 50 years ago. Your specialist can tell you exactly what to expect depending on the type of cancer you have, and specific treatments. Good luck.

Very sorry.
1. If you eat like shite, stop.
2. Drink like a fish, stop.
3. Smoke, stop.
4. Get your arse to Houston. Unless you are close to somewhere else great for cancer.
If surgery is an option, do it. But realize if you have any of the above habits you are not CURED if you return to same habits. You're just the guy who will get it again in 7 years.
Wish you the best. Get online and read but do not drown. There is mountains of info out there. From "chemo saved me" to "chemo is the devil baby of big pharm" to "drink/eat only this color food and do nothing else".
And it is always either or. Which sucks. I've found no reason in my reading why you can't do both? Follow your oncologist treatment plan AND put only healthy shite in your body.
Good luck.
is a poor choice for colon cancer patient but the sentiment is proper.
