quote:LOL WUT. Shell site is most definitely not a field and the average person driving by wouldn't even notice that any equipment was removed. Its very much still there, not a field
Unfortunately, the entire refinery has been dismantled. Its now a giant open field.

I heard they were just going light sweets without the coker. You hearing they will rebuild it? That would be interesting
Depends what has been demolished. Media isn't usually accurate on details. A crude oil analyst said they were building a new one.

Everything is still there but it has become a terminal. Harvest Midstream is not even considering selling anything or demolition. They looked at buying a unit I had for sale to isomerize n Butane into Iso Butane and sell to refineries needing it for alkylation units.
All of the tank farm had lost certification so sprucing them all up and recertifying them by 2 and 3 as cash flow allow was still going on months ago.

There are a few indies wanting to put up tinker toy size but nothing major.
The former Pelican Refining on the river north of Lake Charles was sold but it's a pile of junk. It can only receive crude by barge or truck. Products leave by truck or barge

I did some environmental consulting there in 2006/7 or tried to, until the Feds and State raided it in 2007. Place was a total POS.

A minority owned Houston company leased and operated it during the 90s to provide fuel for military and ran it into the ground. Pelican bought it to use only the vacuum unit to make asphalt from Venezuelan crude. Som pieces might be salvaged from the rest but pretty much all junk.
Joe Chamberlain built and owned it until Pelican bought it. Strange little man. If you ever met him the first thing he would mention was what a giant pecker he had. The guys still there in 2021 laughed about how he would take a leak outside the front door so the receptionist could see it.
I don't think that the naphtha desulfurizer and reformer was ever operated but stainless tubes bundles gone from exchangers, every valve and instrument too. Some of the employees when it was Goldline (lessee) smoked crack while at work in the 1990s.

The state inspectors hit an underground pipeline even after told it was there, in their ground contamination investigation. The only contamination they found was caused by them.

They refinery will never be restarted as a refinery. Possibly as something else
Motiva/Shell ran it into the ground. I know a lot of people say shite like that, this time its true. Major share holders took the money and ran.
