“In any case,I hope you,and others in the medical field, will be open to the idea that some of what you learned should be revisited with some input from scientists outside of the prevailing dogma”
Not likely,I spent 35 years as an RN,31 years in ICU.What I learned about Drs.is that very few will admit they are wrong about ANYTHING.In fact, they are incapable of admitting they are wrong. They have convinced themselves they are so intellectually superior to mere mortals, they also have very fragile egos that anything that threatens their self perception is met with a immediate and vigorous response.Anger,sarcasm,belittling-their classic response-“Where did you go to medical school?”
In their minds medical school is the be all,end all of knowledge.
Never mind that so much of what they learn, after a period of time,is found to be wrong.
crazy4lsu and some of the other TD Drs.exhibit this very plainly. Not a Dr.but Trump also has this trait.
Medical history is replete with stories of Drs.that challenged the prevailing wisdom and how they were attacked.
Semmelweis, the father of hand washing, was persecuted so severely by Drs,(highly offended by the idea that they should wash their hands) that he had a nervous breakdown and was committed to an asylum by his colleagues.
In more recent times,Dr.Barry Marshall ,that discovered helicobacter pylori as cause of gastric ulcers was highly ridiculed by his colleagues for suggesting bacteria could be the cause. He was labeled a charlatan and quack, some wanted to rescind his board certification as a gastroenterologist.
“Everyone knew that bacteria couldn’t live in the acid environment of the stomach “
He ended up getting the Nobel prize in medicine for his discovery. It was a long hard battle but he persevered.Lot of the pushback came from Pharma, they were making billions as Tagamet was the mainstay treatment prior to his discovery.
Covid laid bare this same phenomenon in a big way.
Dr,Robert Malone had a big role in the development of mRNA technology. He wasn’t against the vaccine for certain subsets of people, such as the elderly and those with co-morbidities .What he was against was mass vaccinations and mandates. His argument was that the long term side effects weren’t known.
He could have been a hero but because he had integrity and courage he was persecuted by the MIC,it cost him professionally and financially in a big way.
There were other Drs.that suffered greatly for daring to question the narrative of vaccinations and/or touted ivermectin or hydroxychloroquine as treatment.
Dr. Harvey Risch
Dr.Peter Marshall
Dr.Mary Talley Bowden
Dr.Geert Vanden Bossche
Sr.Deidre Byrne,MD
Dr. Pierre Kory- he is interesting. Before Covid he was a staunch Democrat and voted for Biden.
There were other Drs but these are off the top of my head.
The only Dr that wasn’t persecuted for using ivermectin was Joseph Varon,he had great success in his ICU,using ivermectin among other things. His fatality rate was 4% when avg for other ICUs around the country was 25%.He did advocate for vaccines and masks, likely this is what saved him.
I find it interesting that crazy4lsu attacks RFK,Jr but has nary a word about Bill Gates that fancies himself as a vaccination expert.

My gf is an RN, and has been working with Dr's for over 30 years also. She laughed when I read her this, and says that is absolutely the truth.
She has taught me that everyone should be highly engaged in their own healthcare, lest suffer whatever the latest doctor-think or medical/political or just laziness that is prescribed. And doctors love writing scripts. Chemicals are the easy answer to all problems.

You are a clown. Stop with this "i'm better than you" attitude. Pretty scary that you actually do this for a living with the amount of brainwashing you have taken on.

Medical science is periodically revolutionized by dissenting voices, but the thing to remember is that the vast majority of dissenting voices in medicine aren't going to revolutionize the field (there are thousands of forgotten failed innovators for every Semmelweis or Marshall), and the reason Semmelweis and Marshall are good examples is because their work has been replicated and built upon over the years.
Unless we have vast subject matter expertise ourselves, we all have to choose to trust individual providers we have a relationship with and trust their knowledge and their trust-networks in turn.
To bring this back to the OP, to refuse vaccines for fear of autism would be to trust research that hasn't just not been replicated, but was fraudulent, withdrawn from publication, and the researcher run out of the profession.

Why did we start calling doctors "providers?" It sounds like some shite some loser in HR with nothing productive to do cane up with to spice up their PowerPoint presentation.

I read a study a while back that suggested that acetaminophen exposure in pregnancy is linked to a higher risk of ADHD and autism

Yes we have one in this thread. Weird coincidence

It is kind of an annoying term, but it's just because there physicians assistants, nurse practitioners, medical psychologists, and others who have overlapping roles with MD's/DO's and people end up trusting their PA's, NP's, etc. in a similar way to MD's/DO's.

The OP simply encouraged future parents to do some research on their own, rather than trust today's political/medical leadership to every medical decision.
And I suggested that simply because of my own experiences with the medical and political professions.
My conversations with my physicians have resulted in much lower dosages of chemo pills while remaining undetectable, and not receiving covid vaccines. My physicians would have me taking more than 5x the chemo needed, and who knows how many covid vaxxes.
Americans would be foolish to let physicians do all their thinking for them.

Actually, it has been said. More women are having children later in life, more child mental health practitioners with much greater awareness and push to find these kids (to a hammer everything looks like a nail), an expanded, more lax definition of the autistic spectrum
That is a stretch to put it mildly. Growing up (I am 58 now) I remember a handful of kids in elementary/middle school that needed instructional help. Those were mainly kids with mental disabilities.
None ran around covering their ears, stemming or completely un engaged from others. These are not newly diagnosed cases that were always there, these are new cases of behaviors we have not seen at this level ever.

Yep, no problem (just don't call us "quack"
).
And to address other concerns in the thread, deferring to medical expertise doesn't mean being passive or blindly following. Active engagement is good and allows you to ask good questions and get better care. But beware when identity gets tangled up with your info-seeking because you can get out over your skis.

I agree with this and it's true for any person with specialist knowledge that you deal with, but none of us can have the expertise in all the specialized domains that we need to make decisions about. People often tend to over-associate being a "critical thinker" with disagreeing with an expert. If I want to think critically through a highly specialized topic, I'll spend the time, energy, and money to learn enough to know what I'm questioning. Otherwise, as a critical thinker I will use my curiosity to better defer to experts. To do otherwise, would be an exercise in hubris and I'd probably be misled.
