Bottomline, you’re wrong here. The school is going to get sued and will have to pay this kid for violating his constitutional rights.
quote:Yall are so ridiculous here. This school actually seems extremely patriotic and rationale, and it makes sense considering Bedford county is EXTREMELY conservative
Clearly, the school does not like oversized displays of American pride.
Their own school board policy specifically mentions honoring those that served.
It
quote:
reads in part, "The contract, which has been in place in all three of the high schools for over a decade, prohibits student drivers from flying large flags or banners on their vehicles, due to their potential to distract or obstruct the view of student drivers as they are navigating the school parking lot."
It also states, "As expressed in School Board Policy IEA: Promotion of Patriotism, the school division is committed to teaching students good citizenship skills that include respect for the country, the American flag, and the sacrifices of service members and their families."
Because of this, BCPS said it has partnered with several local patriotic organizations to hold a community fundraiser to provide complimentary car flags and decals of the American flag, "of appropriate size," to be "safely displayed on vehicles, for junior and senior student drivers."

But a flag on a car in a parking lot?
Do yall not understand the parking lot is an extension of the school and subject to school rules?
Parking spaces, driving privileges, all delegated by the district and the school itself.

I see this thread has already attracted the America-hating, pieces of shite commie scum contingent.

I am sure this board would be riding for this kid's rights if he was flying Black Lives Matter flags.

What’s really funny is that these school administrators are probably very proud of themselves and their position when in reality they’re below methhead roofers on the social hierarchy. It’s time we started treating them as such.

Cool, but you’re wrong. Read Tinker v. Des Moines.

Well BLM is terrorist organization that is only supported by idiots who are incapable of reason or logic. The American flag represents America, which was founded by our forefathers who were literal geniuses in every way.
I would support his right to fly it though. But absolutely judge him and call him a retarded price of shite like everyone else who supports BLM

Hoodies weren't allowed at my school
Good, hoodies lead to hoodlums. Hoodlums lead to hoodrats. Hoodrats lead to doing hoodrat things with friends.

They used to.
Our middle schools still teach marksmanship and hunter education.

There is no reason a high school student needs to be flying flags in the back of his truck during school.
This rationale is scary.

School would have to get cops and then they’d be sued too. Cops can’t trespass or demand someone to do this in a public lot. Notice how cops aren’t part of the story because it isn’t enforceable.

What could go wrong?

Is that north of Richmond?

The school flies the American flag in multiple locations at the school. So clearly, they aren’t treating it like the confederate flag.
I agree that this likely isn't an issue about the school discriminating against the American flag. Regardless, that doesn't make their policy on flag size on vehicles constitutional.

Yeah, it seems like such a weirdly specific "rule."
You say specific, I think it’s oddly vague. The need to define a size, and preferably make it very small, like the size of the flags people put on their windows when rolled up to display school pride.
quote:
It's hard to see what would have even possibly prompted such a thing.
Honestly? Probably full sized confederate bars and stars

From your link
quote:
the school officials must be able to prove that the conduct in question would "materially and substantially interfere" with the operation of the school
Aren't they saying the flags would be a distraction to drivers in the parking lot, which would interfere with the operation of the school, by way of potential accidents.
