You should read up on the history of polygamy in the Mormon church. A great deal of it was predatory towards minor girls, and they were forced into the marriages.

I didn't provide anything because you're going against your own argument. If two consenting siblings want to get married, why should the government be able to tell them no? You can't say that "every" incestuous relationship is abuse, so why would a ban be necessary?

Incest wasn’t even part of the original debate, but fine. If two siblings truly are in love and want to get married and they are both legal adults, then I don’t really care. It’s REALLY fricking gross, but whatever. Ultimately, I don’t care what two consenting adults do.

I don’t care if incest is legal. You’re right if gay marriage and polygamy are then incest should be as well. Why should I care if two related people get married? It’s fricking gross and they should be ostracized and treated like pariahs....but that’s the job of the local community and societal forces, not the government

Not arguing with you. I just want to say that society shifts over time as what is at the margins change.
The statements above were absolutely true about LGBTQ folks 15 - 20 years ago. I don't know why anyone believes perversions have some wall that will never be breached....and that goes for hetero perversions as well.

Life isn't black or white. Shocker I know - But you can be okay with polygamy and homosexuality while simultaneously being against pedophilia, bestiality, and incest.
That said, I agree with DeafJam. I don't give a single frick if two siblings get married.

The law and religion are two separate things.
Why should the law care if two dudes or multiple people want to get married?
People can't seem to separate their church and the law, which is scary.

You’re right of course. I was just voicing my own personal opinion on the matter. If societies view shifts then it shifts.
Western Civilization’s view of same-sex relationships has come full circle over the past 2,500 years. It wasn’t too long ago that everything outside of immediate family was downright normal. First cousins, uncles and nieces, etc.
My point is when it comes to marriage, sex, and love then it’s not the governments role to forbid anything that’s consensual. To the extent certain types of consensual relationships should be discouraged, let conventional societal pressures and norms do their work

Eating poop is gross too but we don’t stop the poop eaters from getting married. Just because some people find some things offensive doesn’t mean it should be illegal, if we are allowing everything else. Just keep shite behind closed doors where it belongs

They’re not legalizing polygamy, they’re decriminalizing a concept. Technically polygamy is impossible because the state won’t Give you a license for a second wife. This law is no different than decriminalizing criminal penalties for infidelity in marriage.
The fairness element is targeted towards the fact law enforcement never prosecuted a married man who also has a girlfriend and kids. However, they will threaten/prosecute if he refers to the girlfriend as his “wife”.
They’re also increasing penalties to ensure people don’t abuse the contractual nature of marriage to game government benefits. So it seems like a win/win for erryone.
