Head coach Carla Tejas is part of an ongoing investigation after a group of players sent an email to the university, Lone Star Conference and NCAA officials expressing their concern about Tejas' behavior on and off the field.
The email sent by players also brought up concerns about mental health and academics, along with alleging how Tejas may have violated NCAA and Title IX guidelines.
According to the Odessa Police Department, Tejas was pulled over going 56 mph in a 40 mph zone. The officer that pulled her over noticed the smell of alcohol on her and that Tejas was slurring her speech.
Two breathalyzer tests revealed Tejas had a blood-alcohol level over 0.15.
However, that all changed when a group of students filed a complaint citing numerous grievances. That complaint was sent to our newsroom this weekend. The group claimed Tejas allowed an ineligible player to remain on the team and play in games. In addition to several NCAA violations, the group alleged Tejas also violated their civil rights and said they chose to come forward anonymously out of fear of retaliation. The group also cited academic concerns in their complaint, saying that Tejas’ demands of the soccer team caused them to fall behind in their studies.
As for NCAA infractions, players allege Tejas re-entered a game that she was ejected from in disguise and continued coaching via walkie-talkie.

She sounds like a roughneck’s dream. Bet she shotguns beers at the Stonehenge replica.

Tejas spent time at both of the 4-year institutions in Rapides Parish (LSU Alexandria/Louisiana College-Louisiana Christian University)

She looks like a 14-year-old stoner.

If she didn’t bang anyone, why is this news?

So she got a DUI? Why are her players sending an email about her behavior?

She looks like a little bit like Bobby Valentine, no?

NCAA has very strict rules on practice hours. If she broke them, will be easy to figure out. If she did not, kids need to be smarter.

Carla likes to party. I am sure her OF will be out soon.

quote:The "very strict" rules were pretty easy to work around. Our coach used "volunteer practices" to get around it. Granted we still didnt do anything that I would deem excessive but still. Everything used to be done via paperwork that coaches could write whatever they wanted to on and just pick athletes you knew wouldnt question to sign off on. I think they moved to being on a computer now but the general process is probably still the same. I imagine theyre harder on the major sports than all of the minor ones.

It's one of those things that as long as you otherwise run a clean program and dont do anything egregious you can get away with pretty easily.

Tejas took Louisiana Christian College who went 1-16-1 in 2019 to a 16-2-1 record in 2021 and reached the NAIA National Tournament.
She sounds like a good coach.
