UPDATE 1-Little sign of progress after contact to end U.S. refinery strike resumes

quote:

A strike by U.S. refinery workers entered a third day on Tuesday as contact resumed between the lead industry negotiator, Royal Dutch Shell Plc, and union leaders over a new nationwide wage deal.

After leaving the negotiating table early on Sunday when talks broke down, prompting labor leaders to call a strike, Shell late on Monday said it reopened communication with the United Steelworkers union (USW).

Asked about the status of the contact on Tuesday, Shell spokesman Ray Fisher said: "The USW and Shell continue to dialogue."

But the conversations do not appear very deep.

"No meetings have been scheduled as of now," said Lynne Hancock, USW spokeswoman. She said both sides met late on Monday but no progress was made.

As far as our insurance, 80/20 is what we have here also, sounds good, but when you have to pay about $400/month just for insurance, then 1250 deductible per person. In my case a family of 4... I have to pay $9000 year then my insurance kicks in this 80/20. Every year or two the premiums keep going up.
On a different note, word is our salary guys are reporting to texas in a few days, they seem excited, which is sad, most if the names we hear are volunteers so it's not like they were forced.

The ones that are "striking" have no choice but to strike. USW has instructed certain facilities to do so. The employees would much rather be at work than on strike. The employees aren't the ones asking for better than 80/20 or any other topic on the table. That's all USW national leadership.

Post Obamacare being law, this is what most of us have buddy. Elections have consequences, and the USW sucks the democratic tit.. Health insurance is a raw deal for most in this country and is only going to get worse

The best chance now for reversal lies with SCOTUS and the decision expected this summer...

I had this before Obamacare and they sold it as a good deal.

Probably the reason that company lost a third of it's competent workforce within a year.

Healthcare cost have been pretty flat the last couple years, but no doubt a conservative will argue the fact.

Those are already in place for what is being negotiated, at least at sites I am familiar with.

For the most part salary and hourly have maintained the same due to contract language.

Meh, relatively flat means our increases are only 3-5%.

That's not bad for an individual, but tough if you're paying a lot of emplyeee premiums.

ETA: just looked it up, health care cots "only" went up 3.6% in 2013.

I guess to people who can't do math, that's flat.

You are correct jerkyboyz salary employees are included in the fatigue policy. I myself have gone out on fatigue after working 18 days straight. Also the API (American petroleum inst.) RP-755 was due to the BP Texas city 2005 event.RP 755 applies to all employees working night shifts, rotating shifts, extended hours/days or call outs involved in process safety sensitive actions. It should also be considered for others making process safety-sensitive decisions. On-site contractors involved in process safety sensitive actions shall have fatigue risk management systems equivalent to the criteria outlined in this document.

The fatigue policies are different at each location management controls the days each operator will take off for fatigue . A operator can go up as high as 21-26 days straight with pay or 14-16 days straight without.
