yeah, the whole we're too busy thing makes less than zero sense...forwarding packages to the wrong location would take at least as much time as simply forwarding them to the correct location

Its the "US Government". I repeat, its the "US Government"
What the frick else do you expect?

What was it sent in? If it was in a box that was reused and that reused box had a barcode on it already it might explain why it has bounced back and forth. The package goes through the sorting machine at one facility and reads the barcode to your address. At the next facility that box is upside down and the machine reads the old barcode and kicks it towards that destination. Rinse and repeat.
This is more common than people think. They save a box that was sent to them, then reuse it and they won’t take a sharpie and run a line through the barcode that was used to get that box to them. It goes into the mail stream and bounces back and forth multiple times frustrating everyone involved.
Lesson here is that if you ship something out make damn sure that any existing barcodes used for tracking are marked up in a way that the sorting machines cannot read that barcode. The only barcode that should be able to be read by those machines is the one associated with the destination you are sending it too.

i'll check that out...if i ever receive it...but i'm not buying that as the cause of all 5 packages i'm waiting for...

Mine is a gift ordered from a company to be delivered to a relative. I doubt it's a reused box. It's not Ebay or anything like that.
I'm currently on hold with USPS. The package has now been "in transit" to a facility for several days after having gone back and forth from Dallas to Baton Rouge 3 times.
Interestingly, USPS gives you 5 or 6 options of the type of music you want to listen to while on hold forever.

Well, I spoke with USPS. The woman told me there actually is a barcode issue. I'm not quite sure I understand it, but Dallas keeps getting it and they show it's misread or something like that and send it back to Baton Rouge. (She says everything is done by machine, so I'm not sure how Dallas is catching that it's not supposed to be there.) When BR scans it, it shows it needs to go to Dallas so they send it back and the same thing is happening over and over again.
She created a file on it to investigate and get it sent to the correct address. She says they have to contact me within 2-3 business days regardless and to call if they do not. She sent me a text code to text the tracking number to get updates via text.
We'll see what happens.

Yeah, we sent a package in early December addressed to a relative in Statesboro, Ga. It left our local facility, went to the Houston processing facility, then to Denver, for some reason, then to Aurora, Co., back to Denver, then to the USPS facility in Palmetto, Ga and finally, 22 days later, it arrived at the address we sent it to in Statesboro, Ga.
It arrived, though, in a different, smaller, box than what we sent it in with only half the items in it that we mailed. Not sure what happened to the other items and no one at USPS seems to know either. What a clusterfrick.

Yeah, the woman I spoke with this morning assured me there was no funny stuff going on in Baton Rouge because that would be illegal......
I ordered and king cake one year shipped to a friend. She received the taped up empty box.

I ordered contact lenses 12/20/24, they shipped 12/31/2024 and I still don't have them. They have been in BR twice now, Tennessee, Texas. Idk who the frick is in charge but the whole system sucks. The post office advice to me was to just go to the eye dr at get some from their office. Gee thanks. I would do that but my prescription is special order.

Call customer service. It's a PITA, but eventually I got a live human who opened a file on my package. Can't hurt.
Posted on 1/16/25 at 1:43 pm to Gris Gris
I talked to a live human. They said my only option is to wait. I even asked if i could go to the processing facility and get my package and they said no.
Posted on 1/16/25 at 1:51 pm to tigafan4life
It seems as if the equipment in BR or S. LA. is in need of maintenance or replacement. I would normally blame shitty delivery people, but this "back office" frickery sounds like an equipment problem.

UPS sucks, too. Package has been saying out for delivery for several days. So fed up with paying more money and it takes longer than promised.

Did they open any sort of file for you to see what the problem is?She indicated that opening the file would get the issue looked into closely so they would stop returning my package to the wrong location. I'm not buying it until it happens, though.

Since someone bumped this, I’ll play: they haven’t been to our house since Friday due to snow. We have been coming and going at will since Sunday afternoon.
eta: today is one full week with no mail. I put a rare piece of outgoing mail in Tuesday. It's still there.

The new Palmetto facility where packages go to die. Thank Trump for appointing his buddy, PMG DeJoy. DeJoy is the self-proclaimed logistics expert who opened the Palmetto facility and it’s been a shite show ever since. As a decades long USPS employee, I can assure you our efficiency has severely decreased since our PMG was appointed in 2020. The two decades prior to his arrival, it was rare that I was having to try and locate a customer’s package. Now it might not be every day but it is certainly every week.

My package was delivered this morning, so whatever the USPS did after I called worked. I just now got a call from them confirming delivery and apologizing. The lady said she wasn't sure why it went back and forth, but that she knew the BR processing office got behind at Christmas and they were sending them elsewhere for handling. The first lady denied this and said that it was illegal.

this is the same thing i was told by the first postal employee at my local office that i spoke with...the second person was a little more vague...probably because she knew they weren't supposed to be doing this...it still makes no sense to me that they would forward packages to locations out of the area instead justing sending them to the next correct facility...they all have to go back to BR to be processed again...and i'm still waiting for 4 packages...
