They were and frowned upon it. So did the union and they had draft riots in the streets of New York City.

The union also forced immigrants right off the boat for the war effort. Many if not all of them didn't speak any English and didn't know what the hell was going on.

That is why it should’ve been banned years ago!

Banned by the military yeah but it shouldn’t be banned in the country.

They no doubt would have won the war if they took the colonists more seriously but they weren't the French military and so they didn't engage them at full strength. In some ways it is similiar to Vietnam.

Can I ask why people and groups insist on fighting a war that ended some 160 years ago? The civil tore this country apart and pitted brother against brother, yet somehow there was enough decency to honor the dead on both sides and allow healing to take place. For the life of me, I cannot understand why people of today insist on trying to reopen old wounds. A statue or a plaque or maybe even a flag might not might mean anything to some people, but to others it does. Why insist on inflaming those passions nearly 200 years later? Sometimes it’s just better to let old wounds be and continue moving forward while continuing to remember what got you to this point.

They fought an immoral war and lost, right? If we're going to have a standard, let's use it.

Militarily speaking we didn’t lose the war. The US won a lot more battles than they lost.

Policy wise, it was a complete failure.

When the Marines took Shuri Castle on the island of Okinawa in late-May 1945, the first flag to fly over the ruins of the fortress were the Stars and Bars of the Confederate States of America. Simon Bolivar Buckner Jr., the son of the Confederate general who surrendered to Grant at Fort Donelson, ordered the Confederate flag taken down.
