Instead, donates it to scholarship fund.
quote:

Rodney Bennett, University of Southern Mississippi president, has donated a recent raise he received to a scholarship fund at the university.

The Mississippi Institutions of Higher Learning gave Bennett a $72,630 raise, increasing his salary to $464,500 a year. But in a July 6 email to the campus community, Bennett said he wouldn't keep that hike.

"I am sensitive this increase comes at a time when so many employees have not received pay increases, have had positions eliminated or have had positions in their units unfilled," he wrote. "As such, I have decided to use this salary increase to endow a second scholarship through the USM Foundation."

Southern Miss cut personnel in May after receiving $7.96 million less in funding since fiscal year 2017. Three employees lost their jobs. Another 33 vacant positions were eliminated.

Good for him.

Wonder if F. King would do the same...

Just kidding. I know he wouldn't.

Good for him. Grown men do things like this.

Alston Sterling whips out guns in a gas station an rapes girls.

Is it still a thing for a lot of the highest paid head coaches to do this with their base?

I'd like to think there are presidents who have also done this without publicly announcing it.

I doubt he announced it because he was showing off or wanting people to idolize him. He's a state employee, and the raise would have been public knowledge. Can you imagine the backlash and anger from the USM community had it been announced he was getting the raise during such a time had he not done this? The guy was just trying to prevent anger before it started.

I wouldn't be surprised if it were pre planned for the optics. Maybe I'm being a drunk cynic, though.

Back to MY company? None.

The comment I made was someone like Les Miles making a 300k base (state dollars) of a 5MM salary and donating a lot of it back to the school in the form of a scholarship or other forms.

And? Why is this news?

The fact that he made it public means that he did it for likely selfish reasons.

If not, he would have kept it to himself.
