Regarding Antonio Brown calling Ryan Clark an Uncle Tom, it amazes me the ignorance of so many people regarding the name Uncle Tom. I guarantee you more than 99% of the people who use the term have never read two pages of Harriet Beecher Stowe’s 19th century novel. Of course I shouldn’t be surprised, Antonio Brown tried to enroll at Florida State and was denied because he was too dumb and even tried to enroll at Alcorn State. Maybe the fool should read the book before using terms he is totally ignorant of.

I saw Tbird's post on this, and I've got to ask - why does this matter?

Everyone knows what it means today.

ETA - Using it incorrectly is dumb, no doubt, but why to you have to read the book in order to know what the term means?

no one on this board, except for me it seems, knows what the term third world means, it is used here strictly to mean an impoverished nation, but that is not what it means

Perhaps not be culturally illiterate?

The "meaning today" is not an appropriate description of the character in the novel. The Uncle Tom in the novel had strong character qualities that should be admired not denigrated.

I’ve got a secret down at uncle Tom’s cabin. I’ve got a secret that I just can’t tell. I’ve got a secret down at uncle Tom’s cabin. Know who put the bodies in the wishing well.
