US service academies say hand gestures at Army-Navy game were a game and not racist

BTW, this was categorized as "breaking news".

The US Naval Academy and US Military Academy at West Point said Friday that the hand gesture some cadets and midshipmen were seen making on camera was part of a game known as the "circle game" and not a white supremacist symbol.
The circle game is commonly played when a person forms an "OK" with their hand below their waist to trick a second person into looking at it. If the second person is caught looking at the hand gesture, that person is then punched by the person who made the gesture.
The academies were investigating to see if the cadets and midshipmen were making a sign that can be associated with white nationalism, which is someone forming the "OK" sign with their fingers and thumb to symbolize the letters "WP" -- which stands for white power.
quote:
We are confident the hand gestures used were not intended to be racist in any way. However, we are disappointed by the immature behavior of the two Fourth Class Midshipmen, and their actions will be appropriately addressed," Naval Academy Superintendent Vice Adm. Sean Buck said in a written statement. "The Naval Academy is fully committed to preparing young men and women to become professional officers of competence, character, and compassion in the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps; in this case, we recognize there is more work to be done."
"We investigated this matter thoroughly," Lt. Gen. Darryl A. Williams, 60th superintendent of the US Military Academy said in a separate written statement. "Last Saturday we had reason to believe these actions were an innocent game and not linked to extremism, but we must take allegations such as these very seriously. We are disappointed by the immature behavior of the cadets."

I used to play this game in high school. Didn’t know I was a nazi.
I think liberal SJWs just didn’t have friends before liberal arts college so they don’t know of the game.

Amazing that every major network ran with this, all on the basis of a white supremacy hand signal that isn't even a white supremacy hand signal.

That obviously stands for a noose with three klansmen standing around.
Military just trying to cover up the institutional racism.

It is amazing that no one in this news rooms or editing teams or production teams played that game in high school and was like "wtf guys, this is a stupid kids game".
Or, you know, people could have googled it.

They knew it but ran with it anyway. Not running with it doesn't gather clicks.

Those 4chan guys must be laughing hysterically about all of this.

The “ok sign means white power” nonsense originated a few years ago from 4chan trolls who wanted to prove liberals will become enraged over the dumbest of things.
Now the talking point from the left is “yeah, it was a troll, but actual white supremacists have also adopted it to flash to each other in public and everyone knows it’s still racist”
These people are delusional haha

A cop friend and I still do this to each other. One time I bought the hat pictured below, boxed it up and sent it to his captain. At the weekly briefing, he was presented the gift from a member of the community for outstanding service. They filmed him opening it. Gottem! Good times

We played a game called doorknob.

I didn't play that game. I thought it was dumb. some one would do it to me and then punch me. At which point I would flip out my switch blade and say do it again and i'll remove your balls. At which point i would turn and walk away. My JNCO jeans and leather wallet attached with a chain would scare them away.
