Place is going backwards.
Landry can't do jack shite
Politicans are inept and corrupt
Crime, roads are awful
Quality people are leaving here every day.
While all these things are true and were reasons I didn't hesitate to leave when I had an opportunity 3 years ago, I sure as hell miss Louisiana and we'll certainly move back at some point.
The people and culture are the biggest aspects we miss. And while we took it for granted living there it's truly hard to find elsewhere.
And we moved to a place that always ranks high on these lists.

Louisiana has its problems.....but many of us have a great life here. I could have as good or better in the Houston suburbs but that comes with its own set of issues.
It would be very hard for me to replicate my standard of living anywhere else outside of Houston and maybe south Mississippi.
for the upper middle class and wealthy Louisiana provides a pretty good place to live. I know the roads arent great but they also arent much different than other places when you look at it as a whole. Most arent well traveled enough to know that though
for those with money, you can get away from the crime, other than NOLA, and have a great house in a great neighborhood for less than you could in other places for the most part.
I mean for those that can afford it, LA offers good to great golf, great fishing, great hunting, great sports scene, great boating, and other outdoor activities.
Has a vibrant youth and hs sports culture too.
if you have the money, the catholic schools are pretty dang good.
easy access to Houston, Dallas, NOLA and the gulf coast
for sure its not perfect but not nearly as bad as people make it out to be...assuming you have money.
now for those poor as frick or living in places like Lake Providence or in intercity NOLA....well frick man...should have paid attention more in school or learn a trade or something. that is on you.
its not perfect by any means....but many of the things yall complain about are just as prevalent in other states yall consider great.

I’d love to live in either of those states but this past January taught me that I’m not built for 9 of their 12 months.

I thought the same. It’s amazing how much bullshite is lifted up from your day to day life after you move that you never realized most places don’t really have to deal with.
ETA: the unrelenting heat and weather + violent crime being right around the corner no matter how nice your specific neighborhood is plus the roads alone were a life changer for my family when we moved. It’s unbelievable anytime I go back how those three things immediately fill me with dread and anxiety.
Not to mention my insurance premiums dropping like a rock as soon as we crossed the state line.

Unfortunately, they are correct. The trajectory this state is on makes me doubt it will improve any time soon.
Only reason I still live here is so my folks can spend time with my 2 year old daughter. I'll be leaving the state in a few years and will be sad doing so.

Louisiana... The place where MBAs keep waiting tables at Chilis while waiting for that dream job of 55k a year to open up in Lafayette so they're not more than 90 minutes away from family or their favorite fishing hole.
People that are retired don't really get a say. They can live in BFE in Louisiana (just like they can in most other southern states) and live their idyllic lives, drinking tea on the porch and talking to the mailman about their bowel movements. Those that need to work for on par wages will usually have a wildly different outlook, especially professionals (not plant and blue collar baws.)

It is getting worse by the year. Want to see where my two youngest end up after college to decide if we head out.
Love our house and friends but I see no future for my kids to be near us. I can’t responsibly encourage them to live nearby, and I’d like to see grandchildren when they have em

Don't forget high insurance rates, flooding, hurricanes, only one Fortune 500 company, underfunded universities, low test scores, six-month summers, litter everywhere, high sales taxes, low wages for most jobs, high crime rates...I could go on. Get out while you are young. No kidding. You'll not regret it.

Retired people suffer in Louisiana, too. Your ignorance of that is selfish at best, and stupid at worst.

so engineers are not professionals? because outside of houston I can make 30-40% more here than other places...maybe even more. I make well over 50% more than the median for my field.
What about business owners that services those places and the population that works there?
sure if you want to be a big lawyer or big finance and things like that then go. there are plenty of reasons to leave and LA isnt some amazing place for sure, but
what i was saying is that if you have money and a great job, its a pretty good place to live.
1) you can afford to get away from the crime and culture
2) you can afford really good schools
then all the other reasons I mentioned. now if you want big city life, Louisiana is not it as all.

Texas, Atlanta, Nashville, or the coasts. That should narrow it down for ya.

The roads are falling apart and seems like there's a prison every couple of miles.
But, those studies are typically based on stats related to income and I think skewed to favor things that northern states score better on, which is usually also related to income. In other words, these are usually shite on the poors lists.
