I'd imagine they let it do a continental float by to gather as much info as they could about what it was, what it was doing, maybe let it load its caches up before we retrieved it, nothing is approaching an ADIZ doing Mach something, or even close to Mach something, don't care what the altitude, it ain't getting much farther into our airspace

The narrative the left threw out to excuse the continental fly over just got demolished by shooting this balloon down.
What really happened, the Potato administration is incompetent and severely fricked up by letting the first balloon go by. They realized how bad they fricked up and in an incredible change of pace, decided to use their brains when a 2nd one came by.
