SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — A federal judge has overturned California’s three-decade-old ban on assault weapons, ruling that it violates the constitutional right to bear arms.
U.S. District Judge Roger Benitez of San Diego ruled Friday that the state’s definition of illegal military-style rifles unlawfully deprives law-abiding Californians of weapons commonly allowed in most other states.
California first restricted assault weapons in 1989, with multiple updates to the law since then.
California’s attorney general argued that assault weapons as defined by the law are more dangerous than other firearms and are disproportionately used in crimes and mass shootings. But Benitez said the guns are overwhelmingly owned for legal purposes.

ETA....
In those two opinions, Benitez wasn't subtle.
Nor this time: "Like the Swiss Army Knife, the popular AR-15 rifle is a perfect combination of home defense weapon and homeland defense equipment."
He scolds the media for demonizing a certain category of rifle over other types of weapon, notes the AR-15-style rifle's popularity (there are probably more in circulation than Ford F-150s, he notes), calls the ban a "30-year-old failed experiment."

And his decision will, in turn, be reversed by the 9th. Look for it.

State court will probably rule it constitutional.

This smells like elaborate ruse, resulting in more restrictions.

Some semblance of sanity in an utterly insane state.

Nah, he overturned other bans that restricted ammo.

Nobody I associate with has assault weapons. They do have AR-15s and they stand for the manufacturer... ArmaLite Rifle ??

Agreed. Annoys the hell out of me when they say assault rifle... We don’t say assault knives. It’s just more leftist propaganda.

What a surprise ZS stereotyping people again.

I'm not opposed to this decision... Everyone needs guns kind of a mutually assured destruction philosophy like nukes.
There were some perps breaking into homes in my middle class neighborhoods when people's cars weren't there. Well they picked the wrong house one day and ole dude blasted both with buckshot. There wasn't any break-ins in a 1 mile area for months. Unfortunately those cats were young and it almost felt like gang initiation type crap. They didn't come back to our neighborhood for at least 18 months. I have since moved.
There were multiple videos via ring and other security videos. Definitely felt like gang activity. My house got broken into and they didn't take the cash out my sock drawer even though everything was dumped out of it. They were clearly looking for guns.

Don’t worry, you can still triple mask and play Nintendo switch while your wife’s boyfriend takes her to the range.

Which ISO’s it should work. If the state wants to infringe, let them do it. Fed gov can shove it up it’s arse and stay out of states rights

And then it’ll go to SCOTUS
Possibly. SCOTUS could refuse to hear the case, too.
