Either that or an automatic trigger/detection system failure. Doesn't really matter. A lot of civilians are now dead and Iran looks ridiculous.

USA kills Iran's top general. Iran ends up killing 83 of their own citizens and a host of foreigners in retaliation, none American. Then 32 Iranians died at the funeral for said General. War is weird.

A big part of this is Iran's official statement completely denying this at first. They said it was definitively a plane malfunction (likely engine fire).
Are they going to backtrack on that and say it was an accident?
