Good. Higher oil prices are good for business & home prices in TX & LA.

Fair enough. But it's true and not that hard to believe. If you wanna try it out, make a Facebook friend in Turkey and all their opinions on the Kurdish people. I'll give you ten to one odds the response you get will be unambiguous hate speech.

Fun fact, talk to anyone from Turkey about Kurds and you'll hear the most racist shite you've ever heard. They fricking hate them passionately. I once brought up the idea of Kurdistan to this Turkish dude I knew and he almost took a swing at me. He never gave me a good explanation for why they hate them but the hate is real and enthusiastic.

yeah i don't bring up issues of conflict with people from that region, so you're braver than i

I'd been drinking. But the reaction was comparable to asking red blooded, Alabama NASCAR fan about his black uncle.

Time to pull the frick out of there. There's no reason to get Americans killed and burn through money and resources for all this. Let that land settle itself.

We could use the effort, time, money, and resources back here at home where there's no shortage of problems.

I've had enough of the pseudo wars we wage in the middle east. Just get the frick out and stay the frick out. This is a tremendous over reach of a county's power and a stupid waste of life and time. We aren't going to turn Syria into a fun loving rainbow land.

Dear Obama,

Get the frick out of there. This shite isn't worth it.

Sincerely,
America

let Russia have its turn getting involved in the quagmire of the mid east. let China get its first taste

let them put their young men and women at risk. let our's live and wait for a real conflict with american interests

let them waste billions upon billions of dollars over a long period of time

let them get the blame for "killing muslims" that radicals thousands of miles away use to raise hate against the US

let them be the face of the radical islamic terror opposition for the first time in decades

That's b/c of the Kurdish PKK which is the "terrorist" group of the Kurds who have been at war with Syria. Turkey is actually allies with Peshmerga who are Iraqi Kurds.

Syria is a quagmire. There is no winning in the middle east. Unfortunately all side involved in these wars just love killing with no end.
The only solution is to leave these countries to themselves. Then they can live happily while perpetually killing each other.

Agreed. And perhaps we could use those resources researching a viable synthetic for fossil fuel. Maybe we take away the power of these savages by rendering their oil worthless.

Oil is like vagina and America is like a horny college kid. But we're blowing all our money chasing tail at the bar when we should be thinking long term and staying home to work on inventing the sex robot.

who knows...with that new nuke deal with Iran, maybe if a more moderate government takes over Israel we could find some leeway to have legitimate, open relations with Iran in time.

Honest question because I don't know.

Why is Russia attacking Syria bad for the US?

There's some complicated answers about a prospective pipeline and who's running which puppet government.

But the biggest reason you'll get from people is "cause America ain't a bunch of pussies and we don't lose to Russia, frick Obama".

it's not really bad

1. it may be really good for Russia if Syria becomes a proxy state so they can install a pipeline in syria to transport natural gas to europe. i think Syria also offers a strategic port, which russia needs b/c for as big as it is, it lacks ports

2. it makes the US look weak b/c we stupidly made comments about Assad being bad a few years ago and now russia is likely going to ensure his victory. so the optics of it rub people the wrong way

Depends. On one hand, if Russia can seriously damage ISIS, great.

On the other hand, the US has supported, albeit rather weakly, the opposition to Assad, who are now getting blown away by Russian forces. Assad, as I assume you know, is a murderous fricking douche, but he's a douche who provides stability.

Anyway, it's made more complicated by less than bright line distinctions between the "good opposition" (warring against Assad AND ISIS), and ISIS (warring against everyone).

Our more fanatical Islam haters on here (I'm just a mild hater) will refuse to recognize a distinction at all, but nonetheless, it's there. It's just hard to find, which gives Russia a ton of cover to simultaneously take out the "good opposition" while going after ISIS.
