I have a small business. There's not a single item, supply, service or shipping price that has gone down or stayed the same for me in the last 6-8 months. Not a single one.

When the supply of something falls but demand remains constant, as is the case of beef, what do you want congress to pass?
Look at my comment and your response.
A crises that causes only beef prices to rise wouldn't be hard to chew -- pun intended -- if prices for everything else without that excuse were not also sky high.
What can government do? Maybe: "Hey, I gotta a crazy idea . . . since beef prices among so many other things are going through the roof why not stop sabotaging the prices of even more stuff though tariff wars with Europe and Canada at the same time?"
The brand of Corporatism -- not Capitalism -- we have already works overtime to make sure the average middle class consumer is squeezed in every mode possible without the government doubling down to help them out.

This is not close to being “news”. The price of those two things has been surging for quite some time.

It's not just coffee and beef.
Have you priced a hooker lately?
Grade A was normally $300 now that's $500.

Beef is at least 3-4 years away from a fix, d/t the massive cattle herd culling during the previous administration. By Jan 2025, we were left with the lowest cattle count per capita since the 19th century. It takes years to rebuild a herd
We need to import a bunch of calves from Australia, New Zeeland and Japan to grow the herd. Trump always makes good deals with Australia and Japan. I’m sure he can get us some cows.

Yes it was Argentina. This was not a good thing for American ranchers. I buy beef from a local rancher and also from White Oak pastures in Georgia. Will Harris has a great operation over there where the cattle spend their entire lives on that land. Butchered on site as well. Totally regenerative farming. They don't need any imported fertilizer because it is supplied by the animals themselves.

They have to drink a lot of coffees. It's a vicious circle.

This is how we wind up where we are as a country. There is a historical difference that is applicable through 3/16/2026. Do the research and the legislation that is passed when democrats have the ability to push their agenda and when republicans are able to push theirs. Take a look at executive orders and legislation introduced which did not pass in those same periods. There is a noticeable trend that is easily discernable....republicans make the wealthy wealthier and democrats create overtime and child labor laws. Paying attention to campaign promises and campaign rhetoric is insane...pay attention to their actions when in power. One side makes the wealthy wealthier regardless of the cost and the other side attempts to level the playing field, regardless of the cost. That old boy from Texas who has the Texas GOP shitting bricks ain't wrong...you have a decision...are you more concerned with pronouns or prices? There is a difference between the agenda of the 2 parties that exist...unless you are among the investor class and your money works for you instead of you working for it the historical choice is abundantly clear. It is not a perfect track record, mistakes are made on both sides....but the historical actions, again through yesterday and today tomorrow is abundantly clear...there is a difference and depending on where you land on the economic scale the choice is clear, unless of course pronouns are the most important thing in your life.
Now I understand your politics. You sound like you spout liberal Marxist propaganda. I’m not a fan of Republicans or Democrats, but I’m a capitalist and in favor of free markets. They aren’t perfect systems but free markets and capitalism has done more to lift people out of poverty than any other system in history. Socialism(your system) has a track record too. It killed hundreds of millions just in the 20th century alone. I’ll stand behind America’s system vs. any of your socialist governments. Even the Scandinavian countries built their initial wealth on free markets. You can get your propaganda out of here. You are Democrat schill. Much of what you say sounds like Marxist class warfare type propaganda, lol. Listen to yourself. None of this bullshite has anything to do with these young men on a parade float. You liberal Democrats make “everything” about politics, lol.

quote:No one said coffee is a biological necessity on par with water or shelter. The point is price pressure on commonly consumed goods is a proxy for broader economic trends. You don’t measure inflation using “oxygen, water and sunlight,” you use what people actually buy.
Coffee is like cereal. We've been conditioned to believe we need it. But if you leave it alone and try actually moving around in the morning, you realize you don't need it.
“Just don’t drink coffee” is the same as saying “just don’t buy groceries” or “just don’t drive” when gas spikes. Sure, you can swap or cut anything in isolation. That doesn’t invalidate the data when multiple everyday categories move together.
And the cereal comparison is just stupid. Nobody thinks they need cereal. But if cereal prices double alongside coffee, beef, rent, and utilities, that’s known as a trend line. You can swap beans for meat, water for coffee, walk instead of drive. Cool. The cost pressure didn’t disappear, it just shifted categories.
It's frustrating that people like yourself usually credit the fact that you didn't starve to death on some tundra to nothing but your own efforts instead of the reality that you've been carried along by people that came before you who had more than two brain cells to rub together.

So now they want to talk about food prices?
So, now you don’t want to talk about food prices anymore?
Every time someone pulls the “so now you care about X?” move, they never seem to notice they’ve just made the exact same argument in reverse
.
“So now y’all care about Epstein?” So now you don’t?
“So now y’all are anti-war?” So now you aren’t?
“So now y’all are worried about government waste?” So now you aren’t?
It’s a perfectly symmetrical nothing that doesn't mean anything. It doesn’t advance anything, it just shows you don’t have a real response to the point being made.
If that’s the best you can muster, you’re better off not responding.

I wouldn't say it means nothing, but it's an observation that's best kept to oneself and stored away for the future to know what kind of person your debating.
You're right. In the moment, it's an attempt at a shallow gotcha, but it's also an easy way to identify ideologues who don't debate objectively.
No matter where you fall on the case, Epstein is one of the more obvious topics. Someone who didn't care about him or went as far to call those who did conspiracy theorists, but is now gung-ho about releasing everything because now their side is interested, is an easily identifiable partisan idealogue.
