When I was there in 1990, service members could take a tour of the DMZ. He may have been on a tour and wandered into an off limits area. Soldiers are dumb AF.
Either way, it doesn't happen by accident and I highly doubt NK soldiers "stormed in and took him." The ROK soldiers standing the line were twice the size of the norks and would have fricked them up if they tried.

If it wasn’t at one of the marked crossings it can be a little easier than you think. A lot of the DMZ is jungle and shite. There isn’t a fence or line across the whole country - just the buffer zone which is patrolled by both sides right up to the 38th P or the LoD depending on the area.
If the NoKs were too far south they would have grabbed this dude thinking he was too far north.
Been there, done that, used to have the T-shirt. Not being captured but patrolling the area. It sucks.

Yeah, I've also seen the documentary on one of the other guys. I think it was around 2006. He seemed like he was exactly what you'd expect from a terrible childhood.

He would be a legend if he yelled that when he crossed over instead of Ha Ha Ha like the girl said. Especially if she repeated it to the media.
