I guess we really should consider roller coasters, bumper cars, and go-carts while we are at it.

Are you assuming that the population only grows if they expand the infrastructure? Because, in reality, it expands whether you add more capacity or not. If anything, you're advocating for adding EVEN MORE capacity at a time!

Saying adding more lanes doesn't work because you can't add them fast enough is like saying "I guess I shouldn't even try to put gauze on this gaping gunshot wound because there's no way it would stop all the bleeding." Yeah, it won't, but it will stop a lot more than none would!!!

More lanes just changes where the growth occurs. It has little to no effect on if or how much growth occurs.

Plus, adding capacity doesn't add cars, it just moves them from one portion of the system to another. Imagine the road grid at 5:00 like the birdfoot of a delta where the river splits into many different streams all heading the same direction. By digging a deeper channel in one stream, it gets more flow than the others and can contain more flow. You might say, "shite, well it's just as crowded as it was before!!!" Well, yeah, but the amount of water flowing through the system didn't change. There's now less water in the other channels. Yes, more cars flocked to the added capacity until it was once again stressed, but all of those cars are now no longer on the other roads which they had to use before because the highway lacked enough capacity for them to use!!!!

Five year long studies are part of the problem. From idea to completion takes so long that the project is completely obsolete before it comes to fruition. A new "study" system needs to be in place , or the idea needs to project much farther into the future for any positive results to be realized. The system is broken. People are making money the way it is, so don't hold your breath for changes.

Just when I think the leadership of BR couldn't get any dumber they go and pull something like this and set the bar even lower. If they are that desperate for an alternative to commuting, there is a simple and keep solution (as far as mass transit goes) and that is called bus rapid transit (BRT).

It actually grows in the area of the new road infrastructure faster than other areas. It causes people who used to not take that route to now take it. It encourages businesses to be built further out and on and on.

I am not saying new infrastructure shouldn't be built. I am saying if that is your only plan then your problem will never be solved. Unless you just love complaining about traffic. We need a combination of things. I think adding infrastructure plus technological advances that allow seamless working from home and driver-less cars will be the answer. I also think changing to a four day work week will help.

They should explore widening Airline highway

And no matter what it'll bottleneck at Seigan/Sherwood/Old Jefferson.

So a loop? They'll need to do another survey on all of the previous surveys.

I understand new ideas.

But a frickin gondola! That's ridiculous. I am sure some gondola company approached them with a 'plan' and a healthy 'deal' and voila' - a solution!

But I think this is what people are tired of - BS. Taxpayers are on the outside, stuck in traffic. Washington street exit, a loop, widening roads, etc. etc. stop the gondola talk and let's get real. Or keep talking gondola and stay stuck in traffic.

BR is not progressive, it's just sprawl. But, at some point, it will get so far out, that the inside property values will go up so high, and BR will be very desirable. Not necessarily Cortana, but along the Interstates, not the gondolas.

Sorry, #endrant about traffic, gondolas, stupidity in BR.

Guess I better look at the bright side and quit bitching about it.

Ok, go gondolas. How fast are we talking, and how high?

I remember the New Orleans gondola from the worlds fair. It was not a financial success.

It's absurd that they'll entertain the idea of Gondolas but they won't even discuss widening Airline or building appropriate surface street infrastructure for a city that size.

Widen the roads
Build the loop
Build the street car

Then if you have time, consider (and reject) something as stupid as gondolas.

I suppose if they swing a gondola over to Cortana, it will bustle again!

Is BR the same city that made the casino boats leave the docks for a run around the river several times a day the 1st few years of their existence?

Gondolas in BR

You'd see this a lot "Gondolas not running due to bad weather", "Gondolas not running due to repairs" "Gondolas are being shot down in North Baton Rouge".

No more alcohol consumption for city planners when they redesign Siegen Lane by the interstate again.
