The same thing that has happened to Jackson and Memphis and what will happen to Baton Rouge. Radical black leaders that tax the absolute frick out of middle to upper middle class families (mostly white families) and corporations so that they are completely holding up the infrastructure. Then, when whites move out of the city limits to avoid that taxation, the entire infrastructure collapses because it’s not sustainable by the poor people that are left.

Memphis is lucky that moving headquarters locations isn’t feasible for fedex because that place would be an absolute ghost town if it was.

1. Cincinnati has a lot of children of hillbillies

2. In 1950 Chicago had 500K black residents, half of whom had been born in Mississippi

It was relatively affordable to get there on the train. Muddy Waters paid $11 for train fare in 1943 -- it took him 2 & 1/2 months to save the money.

But not everyone went by train. Sam Cooke's preacher father took the family from MS and hitchhiked to Chi, performing religious services such as weddings and baptisms along the way.

My home office is in Ann Arbor so I spend a lot of time in Detroit. Detroit has cleaned its act up quite a bit. If you have yet to visit the MoTown Museum and Hitsville or have yet to eat at Bert's downtown by the farmer's market then you are missing out. There are good times to be had in Detroit. Just stay outta what's left of the bad areas .... and they are working on those. The rust belt has issues across the board. Detroit is working to change its image and clean up some of the parts that went to shite when the automobile industry collapsed. I'm not saying the city doesn't have its glaring flaws, but we've got plenty of worse areas down south .... so this can be a pot meet kettle thing and as Southerners we should try hard not to be hypocrites. One thing most people don't know about Detroit is that it has strong ties to The South, stronger than any major city north of the Mason Dixon line. And they are proud of that heritage and they let it be known in a lot of restaurants and in their shows and music and even in their pro athletes which they dip heavily into the southern market on all levels to find. Their stadiums are new palaces. They love their teams. There are some of the most beautiful suburbs in the country just outside of Detroit. I am pulling for them to stay on the right track. They have an incredible history. I met one of the nicest men in my life up there, by chance, by the name of Miller London and we became fast friends. When we first met he and I started talking after I had eaten there. Then he gave me the grand tour of Bert's, which was amazing. He was coming down to Charleston the next week to judge a talent show and until we went out to dinner afterwards and I got to show him around Charleston I really had no idea who he was .... but I learned that night. Duck Duck Go him. He's MoTown royalty. Since then we have called and emailed and I always eat there when I am in town and he always lets me know when he is in SC. When I left there one time he introduced me to two guys sitting outside who were choreographers for The Spinners, (when I first became a fan they were known as the Detroit Spinners) and he introduced me as the world's biggest Spinners fan. They had their doubts. Next thing I know we are standing on the sidewalk singing A capella with me singing the bass Pervis Jackson and the other two singing Philippe Soul Wynn and Bobby Smith leads and them trying to teach me the dance moves as we sang several songs .... I knew every word and never missed a beat. (One of a Kind Love Affair, Games People Play and I'll Be Around). They chose the songs and just kept on singing. They were high fiving me and hugging me afterwards and it was one of the greatest days of my life as my wife looked on with another close friend of mine and his wife. Detroit gets a bad rap in this thread. There's a lot to love about Detroit. Go there and give it a chance some time. You'll be surprised. Nice little airport too.

Detroit is a shithole.

It’s dead. And it’s not coming back.

But I like your sunshine.

No, it wasn't. Before liberalism and union mob took over, it was glorious. Liberalism is a disease. Check out Ruins of Detroit

Detroit was never like other cities in its development.

In 1900 it had slightly less than 300k. It was a small city that was like other cities.

By 30 it was about 1.5 mill. But unlike trad cities it was exceeding spread out. Detroit area is about 140 sq miles. For comparison Boston is around 80. Cleveland the same. Pitt about 60.

So, people weren’t living in a core, in apartments.

They were spread out. And plants were spread out. Detroit has buses and street cars.

Additionally, execs and associates execs(advertising, etc) were already living in the burbs. Which wasn’t like trad cities. In 1930 the rich in nyc are in the city. Manhattan.

By the mid 40s Detroit was expanding production and building new plants. Built over 20 new plants in about a decade. Not one was placed in the city.

Oh, by 1960, when times were good and under Gop leadership there were more whites living outside Detroit than in it.

That’s just a start.

However tax revenue decreases and schools decline due to declining industry due to multinational corporations exfiltrating US wealth making the corporations richer and the new host countries richer and the US poorer. It’s a form of vulture capitalism. Not that I’m against capitalism. It just has its limits when it come at the expense of your own nation’s wealth.

The rest of your post makes about the same amount of sense.... NONE.

There are plenty of cities with large geographical areas. I live in one. You may have a point if you said it was never successful because of it, but all those grand structures and luxury were built for a reason. It also met its demise for a reason, and in typical true believer fashion, you meander through whatever mental pretzel you can come up with other than reality to explain it.

Liberalism is a disease.

It's not a problem.

They've got lead in the water up there to shield them from the radiation.

It really doesn't take much to look up the fact that the Detriot river provides 40% of the drinking water for the entire state. So yes, it doesn't matter.
