She's from a very nice family who's owned a hardware store in Winnsboro for a long time. They have had a rough go of it this past year, as her dad, the hardware store owner, caught a rare form of aggressive cancer and died suddenly, within a few weeks. She was abducted from a gas station right across the street from said hardware store. En route to work, she had stopped to get something at the store and Mathis came upon her quickly and forced her back into her own car and made her drive out to a cemetery a bit outside of town. He shot her in the head and took her purse. A grave digger found her alive, but fading. She made a gun with her hand to let him know she had been shot, and he called the sheriff's department. She was later airlifted to Jackson and is responding to stimulus, moving one side of her body ever so slightly, squeezing her hand, etc.

She is still alive, but will never be able to remove the bullet from her brain, as that surgery would kill her.

As for the suspect, my family member is in law enforcement and interrogated him, and the suspect claims they drove out there to smoke synthetic and have sex...all a lie, as the whole thing was caught on camera, and she's a good sweet girl just recently married to a youth minister. I won't comment much on Kevin Mathis, as I was once in elementary school with him and know exactly how much of a dindu he really is, and I could easily get banned, so I'll let it be.

Sad situation on a sleepy Saturday morning in Winnsboro. All I can say, hug your loved ones every day, because life is supremely cheap to some of those who walk about us.

Damn, I have a bunch of family from/in Winnsboro. Don't know this girl's family but I know they will. Just horrible.

La. prisons are revolving doors. They keep shoving out some to make room for more.

Absolutely horrible... This might sound like a stupid question, but what kind of long term effects will this have?

Damn, We have some mutual friends. I saw this on FB yesterday but didn't know what it was about, just that she had been shot.

How awful. I've passed through on 425 a hundred times and can picture all those places along the highway. Pray she pulls through. No excuse for something like this.

Awful news.

I also know the family from years ago. Wonderful people. So sad to hear about her dad dying last year too.

Purse is the worst place for a woman to carry.

3 felony " charges" aren't convictions.

It's a flawed law anyway.

Yep she is white and the tpos is black as the ace of spades.

Just thought I'd make that clear being that any other time it's the opposite it never gets overlooked or unmentioned.

Makes me sick to my stomach

Hope she pulls through. Kipers are a good family. I worked at Kiper Hardware in Monroe back in '69. Got to be good friends with Don and his family over the years.
