Don’t like something? It’s because you’re a racist.
Food not good? You’re a racist
Festival not fun? You’re a racist
Cloudy outside ? You’re a racist

I don’t know about the “significant regional controversy” part....I haven’t really heard anything (I live in Alexandria). But I can presume it has to do with the new administration’s “rebranding” of what has been a largely successful festival. I didn’t go this year, but it seems like the new administration made some changes to the layout, schedule, hell-they even changed the name, seemingly all for ththe purpose of just having their fingerprint on the festival and distancing themselves from the previous administration.

Any backstory on this.
Basically this:
Riverfete was a new festival, about 5 years old. It was wonderful. Great bands, art exhibits, three stages.
Had something for everyone. Funk, country, indie music. Had the Revivalists recently, St Paul and the Broken Bones, Anderson East.....bunches of great bands.
New mayor came in and changed the name, but more importantly his group changed it to everything that sucks about being in a town the size of Alex. The headliner band was Midnight Express....of No Parking on the Dance Floor fame and a whole assortment of jazz or funk that you can see around here for 2 dollars any day of the week.
The artists and Indie people basically refused to support it and the festival was an absolute joke. Had thousands of people prior, dozens this last week.
So there is a local backlash and the festival will be dead in two years. The rain only further damaged the shite show.

The orthodoxy of the cult of progressivism believes you're racist by merely existing
It's that cults version of original sin.

Maybe festivals are racist?
The mayor did mention several times during his campaign that he thought there were too many festivals. I guess the best “political” way to get rid of them is to make changes, cause attendance to drop and then cancel them citing poor participation.
This whole “festival” started as a fundrasier for the museum. The museum sponsored a dragon boat race event a few years ago that was very successful and made money for them. The City (previous administration) cannabalized the event and structured a festival around the dragon boat races so they could get in on the revenue stream. Ended up working out pretty well.....until this year, I guess.

Don’t fuss and get offended about an idiot posting idiotic things. It’s kind of like the SJW’s and snowflakes getting offended over petty shite.

Yes, the dragon boats was such a success that it created some energy to prop of the festival. But even last year when the Dragon Boats were over at Buhlow, the crowd was bigger than ever.
It was one of the better things that happens here. Thank God Funktoberfest is private.

I disagree.
This is akin to turning the other cheek.
Which is great in theory.
HOWEVER, when you turn the other cheek, and they just keep sucker punching you.......
It's time to start fighting back...

The KKK supports certain black leaders that run as democrats. Why you ask? Seems ironic? Well certain leaders have been paid to keep certain groups of their own people down for a long period of time. Look at who is making progress for African Americans: DJT. Statistically, African americans are doing far better under him than any other recent president. And he gets a labeled as a racist so people will ignore that and keep voting D and keep pushing the welfare state and the cycle of poverty

I understand that. Make knowledge of it. But try not to get worked up over a dummy playing the overused race card.

Pressure frustration and failure. Racist tho? Such an easy fallback attack.

That festival has been pretty legit the last couple of years with bands like St. Paul & The Broken Bones and JJ Grey.
I usually hear about it through some form of advertising but now I realize I heard nothing about it this year. Now I know why.

^^^this. Apparently there was a feeling throughout the African American community that it was all "white people music" so they made a huge over-correction. Its funny though because they had Robert Randolph, The Main Squeeze, New Breed Brass Band play last year, all of which are either completely minority or have a minority front man.
They also went from having four stages last year to only two this year and had everything revolve around city hall instead of the whole downtown area.
It was a total disaster. You can partially blame the weather but it would have been bad anyways. They also need to move this from Jazz fest weekend, although in the past it did help them land some really great bands for cheap because they were either coming or going to jazz fest.
ETA: If you haven't listened to Robert Randolph he put on one of the best live performances I have ever seen.
