Hope you just got someone to replace the refrigerant control valve instead of getting a whole new compressor. $65 part and $100 in labor and we had our A/C fixed.

I never paid anyone a dime. I used the power windows instead. I don't remember if someone on this site or another recommended that, but I'm sure it's the valve. It works once the car is warm and has airflow, ie on the interstate when it's really needed.

FYI for anyone looking for other options, there is a law firm in Louisiana that is suing VW for about 100k per vehicle. A google search will turn up the info.

Not a chance in hell they get $100k per vehicle.

Assuming the pre-scandal value is reasonable, I will accept the deal and let them buy it back plus the ~$5k

Yeah, it worked intermittently after ours warmed up or got to a certain RPM. But getting that valve replaced has been a godsend.

Ride with him and see where he brakes and turns in and try for yourself.

Take a 1/2 tab of non-drowsy Dramamine if you're gonna be all day.

That amount includes attorney's fees and other stuff. I'm not going this route, but the law firm is pushing to have this tried in Louisiana. If that happens, they will get a large portion of that amount.

Volkswagen to Pay $14.7 Billion to Settle Diesel Claims in U.S.

quote:

The proposed settlement involving the federal government and lawyers for the owners of about 475,000 Volkswagen vehicles, includes a maximum of $10.03 billion to buy back affected cars at their pre-scandal values, and additional cash compensation for the owners, according to two people briefed on the settlement’s terms.

The cash compensation offered to each car owner will range from $5,100 to $10,000. Both the buyback price and amount of the additional compensation will depend on the cars’ value before Volkswagen’s public admission last September that its supposed “clean diesel” cars had been deliberately designed to cheat on air-quality tests.

quote:

Rather than sell their vehicles back to Volkswagen, car owners in the United States can also choose to have their vehicles fixed to meet emissions standards, although doing so would probably reduce the engines’ performance and gas mileage. And the methods for fixing the vehicles that Volkswagen has proposed are still subject to approval by the Environmental Protection Agency, one of the federal parties to the case.

quote:

Volkswagen will also compensate previous owners who may have sold their diesel vehicles after the cheating became known last year — but at only half the rate of the compensation being offered to current car owners.

I'm assuming the numbers from this link include the 5100-10000 dollar cash that was discussed. I just looked up my estimate and I have to say, not too shabby. If there's another 5,100 on top of that, I may just have to buy another VW . Hell, they'd be giving me back more than what I paid for the damned thing.

Holy shite, am I reading this right? They aren't taking millage into account and paying $  23,327 for my car plus $630 for a sun roof?

Yeah it has that already included in the buyback from what I understand.

What year and model do you have? I have a 2013 passat and with the buyback they would give me 22k but I have about 14k left to pay on it and I would be out a car. I expected better than that. I will be taking the fix plus the 5k.

No they are for sure taking mileage into account. There is a mileage adjustment on one of those documents.

Looks like they will knock off around $11k, not bad considering the miles.

I believe the 5100-10000 dollars is factored into the buyback price.

I have a 2012 Jetta with some additions due to features. Have just under 80k miles on it. Looks like I'd get about 19k. Don't owe much on it at all. Going to be a nice down payment on the next car. Just not sure what that'll be.

Well, I'd be making out like a bandit if these numbers hold.

I have a 2013 Jetta TDI that is coming off lease soon. Looks like I will get $3000 or so and just give the car back. Not too bad.
