I wouldn't think so b/c it is a lease.

You may be able to buy it out for less that you thought, if you like the vehicle. Also, they will fix it.

The settlement to owners is separate and distinct from the US Government and various state governments' civil (and possibly criminal) penalties agains VW.

This settlement announced today only addresses the car owners' side of the case.

Yeah that figures. no problem. The only way I would buy it is if i could flip it really quick to a dealer friend and make money. We like it "ok". Wife wants to go back to a bigger SUV and TBH the thing has way to many rattles for a $70k+ vehicle with 26k on it. My 13 F250 and 15 wrangler are like a vault comparatively.

Interior rattles and suspect interior components have been the bane of Audi and VW's existence for a long time.

(You didn't say interior rattles, but I am guessing)

You think a class action would pay out more than that? It'd be tough to sell more than 5k in lost value on some models.

Like I posted earlier, that's 25% of the value of mine, and less than 10% on others.

I've been pleasantly surprised with the rattles in my jetta. Was expecting it to be worse from reviews. Holding up well with almost 80k miles. I probably wouldn't be happy if I spent 70k on it, but for the price I paid, it's compatible or better than any other vehicle in the price range I've driven.

I was thisfreakingclose to getting the TDI Passat SEL a few months ago. The VW diesel program seemed too good to be true, and I guess that's because it was too good to be true.

It's crazy to think how bad things have gotten for Volkswagen in the ~6 months since this scandal hit.

I have a value edition TDI with a 6spd. It's about a million times nicer than anything else I test drove in that price range when I was shopping in 2014. Such a shame that Volkswagen fricked it up.

I have a vw diesel that is affected. I live in Mississippi and we do not have inspection stickers anymore. So there is no way they would ever know if I got the fix or not.

The state would not be allowed to renew your registration.

You are talking about the EPA. They have (basically) unlimited authority.

Yeah didn't think about that. This is going to get complicated. I hope they resolve this soon. I really like the car and mpgs so I don't want to sell it really.

Wishful thinking...

Every VIN will be tracked by feds, if you do not get it fixed, they will flag your insurance, registration, you will be fined etc.

We have 2 VW TDIs which are affected. I don't want a total buy back but would love the $5K offset. My TDI was purchased and used as a long term commute vehicle.

Again, believe it when you get a letter from Volkswagen.

There will not be a sweeping action across all TDI's. Some make sense to fix, some don't. It's all about what makes the most financial sense for Volkswagen to make the EPA feel like they've won.

For instance, the residual value of a 2009 TDI Jetta isn't going to be much. It'll be far less than the fix is worth, so VW will buy it back for what it was BB'd at pretty diesel-gate (~$4500 ) where a 2015 Audi needs only a software change and has a market value of $60k. They'll update that car. Doing a $15k SCR upfit to a $5k car makes zero sense for anybody.

These broad stroke press releases are bullshite. Volkswagen will have a specific plan of action for you based on your vin# and value of your car, which IMO is fair.

The buyback option has been around for a while. I think they have known for a while that the fix may have been too expensive or technically not reasonable.

I'm not sure how to feel. I think if this goes as the article states, then they've done more than enough to financially make me happy. Problem is, if I sell my car back, I've got to find another fuel efficient commuter car . Can't think of anything I'd really like to have right now. Before this I was thinking of getting the audi next, but obviously that's not happening.

Yea, and as I understand it, "fix" is probably going to lower milage and hp.

Well, we'll have to chalk that up to "shite happens." I will absolutely not be happy to go buy a shitty interior slow arse lame japaneese commuter car. It is what it is though. I had no intention to be car shopping before I had this one paid off.

There are some major differences in what it could cost for VW to bring a given car into compliance. It all depends on what emissions regs were on that vehicle class at the time it was built and how far off the mark that particular model actually is. All of this buzz is news that VW/EPA might be getting close to a decision, but I would hang back and chill out before taking any of this news seriously. This shite takes forever to sort out and the odds of a clear plan of action being in place in less than a year are IMO zero.

They have to have a decision to the judge tomorrow.

If not, the class action lawsuit proceeds with a financial resolution guaranteed by July.

That'll get appealed/contested for a while. With the amount of billions involved, I don't see it happening.

Again, I will gladly eat crow with a smile if it does.
