I usually don't notice you but, when I do, you appear to be one of the worst posters on the OT. Like consistently bad.

I'll just leave you with that.

I think if I were a suspect in this and had money, I’d hire an attorney to get me off

It's a misdemeanor for most of them. Taking the rap and using the money to hire a quality call girl would be cheaper and infinitely more fun.

didn’t have to pay for friends

I'll never understand why people care so much about how others spend their money.

In the universities in the south (can't speak to the entire country) there are some really great guys in fraternities so if you are judgmental of them and chose not to associate with any of them, I think you have missed out on some quality opportunities at friendships and contacts throughout life.

I just never saw personally any sort of prejudice from frat members toward non Greek people, so I just wonder where the hate comes from on the other side?

Not all, just the ones that pay solely for the purpose of joining a group.

Yeah, there aren't any girls around. Just dudes. Tell me more about fraternity life.

You got me. Tell me more.

You know how all these stupid comments about fraternities make you feel? Yeah-that's how I feel when you talk about, marriage, kids, fatherhood, the importance of family, where to take vacations, etc.

It's better to know about a thing before appointing yourself an expert on it.

They honestly don't make me feel any kind of way. I enjoy the banter here. Regardless of the topic.

Yeah but I didn’t come out and say fraternities are bad, I was just responding to that one guy who said he paid to join a group. This was met with strong resistance of me not understanding his life.

A pledge has the reasonable expectation that he will not be encouraged to drink until he dies . So he takes a shot or two. Then a third and fourth. And this point moral responsibility SHIFTS to those who are still sober and/or in leadership. Now that he is impaired they have a legal and moral responsibility to proceed with caution. Particularly since he is a pledge, and is essentially “ auditioning “ for his spot in the fraternity, and wants to gain their favor. It is highly likely that members knew they went overboard and that at some point a “man of conscience “ should have stepped forward . They let a young kid, away from home for the first month, drink himself to death under their direction. That’s a legal and moral failure that should haunt them every day for the rest of their life.

What if the pledge took drugs before the event without telling anyone and the drugs increased the chance of death?
