On the story about the waitress that got stiffed with a racist note by the Black Rhodes bursary receiver (I hesitate to use the word 'scholar') -

First, the Twitter accounts set up for the waitress have now reached R140,000 (US$9500).

Secondly, the perpetrator is now facing a full complaint lodged with the South African Human Rights Commission. If you are putting together a list of actions that are sure career poison, this kind of publicity would be in your top ten.

If there were a Rhodes award for posting, I would give it to you for this. Nicely done.

Good for all of them. She gets money to finish her education, thereby making her a more productive, prosperous member of society.

He gets an education that Oxford could not provide. He will learn that being an a-hole, in full view of the world, comes with a cost. He is still arrogant and defiant about the whole incident so he has not learned yet. He will though.

I want Rhodes to pull his scholly. He may have to get a gig relying on tips to eat. His level of compassion would be elevated. Win win.

Apparently $9,500 goes a long ways in South Africa...

He has called it a kind request. He is a total douche. He somehow is still blaming her for ancient politics.

I don't know if I ever heard his Friend's name. He was referred to as the cis, binary transgender, transvestite, lackadaisical, confused, rainbow eating, goblin. Or something like that.

The truth is they are both just mean and entitled.

I miss the days when the waitress would have just complained about the a-hole who didnt tip and move on.

The dude is an a-hole, no doubt but a Human Rights complaint filed is just stupid.

Meh, he kind of drew attention to himself when he made the Facebook post. Pretty dumb actually.

In her defense she has been working full time and taking care of her cancerous mother. She has probably felt a little overwhelmed by life for a while.

It is not what I would do but I get it.

I hope this guy loses his scholarship, but don't think he should be prosecuted for so-called hate speech.

She didn't bring the publicity. He posted to Facebook bragging about it.

He claims the friend wrote the message on the receipt, but he felt the need to mock her on Facebook which tells you all you need to know about him as a human being.

He should have his scholarship revoked or at least suspended and he should really re-examine his views. Whatever discrimination he has felt, real or perceived, is not the fault of some diner waitress trying to make it through life.

Pretty big derail, but yeah. Very strange band that I typically wouldn't be into, but I actually think they are really interesting. I'm about the farthest thing from a raver, and they are pretty trashy and crass. But I guess that's what they are going for. I like the song Enter the Ninja.
